da.moose
Pittsburgh gets: Alex Edler, Jannik Hansen(50%), Alexandre Burrows(50%) Carolina gets: Marc-Andre Fleury, Beau Bennett, Vancouver 2nd(33rd overall) Vancouver gets: Derrick Pouliot, Haydn Fleury, Ryan Murphy Pittsburgh: In: Alex Edler, Jannik Hansen, Alex Burrows Out: Marc-Andre Fleury, Derrick Pouliot, Beau Bennett Why: Pittsburgh already looks like one of the top teams and they obviously have a win now philosophy with Malkin, Crosby, Kessel, and Letang in the primes of their careers. This trade moves out three pieces that have not suited up for them yet in the playoffs for three veteran players that will vastly improve their roster next season. This deal is affordable for them after moving out Fleury and Vancouver retaining cap. If their best goalie is playing for league minimum (Murray) for one more season might as well load up and try to make a run. Carolina: In: Marc-Andre Fleury, Beau Bennett, Vancouver 2nd(33rd overall) Out: Haydn Fleury, Ryan Murphy Why: Carolina has one of the best young d-cores in the league with Hanifin, Faulk, Slavin and Pesce. That is not to say that they would give up Fleury so easily but the return might just be worth it. Carolina is clearly building through the draft which is evident by there 6 picks in the first three rounds (2 in each round) in the upcoming draft. I think that Vancouver’s 2nd could be worth Murphy alone seeing as how some dmen have clealy passed him on the depth chart and M.A Fleury will give them a bonifide starting goalie for the next six seasons or so (hopefully). Look what Luongo did for Florida and he is six years older. Giving up one of the top defense prospects in the world is never easy but the return might just be worth it. Bennett is another young forward that has showed upside but hasn’t panned out yet in Pittsburgh. The former 1st rounder could get a second opportunity to become a scoring winger with a team looking for guys that can score. Vancouver: In: Haydn Fleury, Derrick Pouliot, Ryan Murphy Out: Alexander Edler, Jannik Hansen, Alex Burrows, 2nd round pick (33rd) Why: Clearly it is time for the rebuild in Vancouver. I know the Sedins want a cup but their best chance in Vancouver is likely in a few years once guys like Horvat, 5th overall, Virtanen, McCann, Baertschi, Boeser, Rodin, Granlund, Hutton, etc, develop into better players and play big roles. NTC’s in this trade get waived because three long time teammates are moving together to compete with one of the best teams in the league. You know these guys want cups as much as anybody. Vancouver has no problem retaining salary either because next year they are giving young players time to develop properly and would love another high draft pick. Vancouver’s defense prospect move from one of the bottom ranked teams to one of the top ranked teams and all three former 1st round picks could see NHL time as soon as next season with Edler and Hamhuis gone. Nuxfanabroad
Agreed Shanghai..this is pretty damn sexy. In a 3-way, one party is oftentimes neglected..but this seems to fulfill all needs. Nice job, OP.
Toews
Does this work cap wise for the Penguins? Seems like there is a lot more cap coming in than going out. Also I don't like this deal for the Canes. Goalies don't have that kind of trade value. Fleury also comes with concussion issues.

Fleury, Dupuis, Cullen all off the books along with the rising cap. Carolina is the team most likely to reject I agree but Schneider got the 9th overall pick, and Martin Jones got a 1st. St. Louis traded a 1st for Ryan Miller at the deadline a few seasons back. Goalies do hold value. The Luongo situation was an anomaly because he wanted out and was 35 yrs old with a questionable contract. Bennett and the 33rd overall are probably nice pieces to them too with Murphy's value likely going down at this point.
-Vintage Canuck-
One of the better proposals on here. Seems like a fair trade for all three teams. Well thought out!
-AJ-
Not a bad proposal, but I personally feel like Pittsburgh might be hesitant go all-in on a guy with a grand total of 13 career regular season games and 10 career playoff games.
goblix
Retaining salary on both Hansen and. Burrows in a trade would be a bad idea. A team can only have 3 players on salary retention in a given year and seeing as we have luongo on the books forever we only have 2 valuable spots. Ok so that was a long winded way of saying Hansen has a great contract and there is no reason to retain on it. If it doesn't fit on Pittsburghs cap then they'll have to clear space another way. onto the trade, I can't see Carolina trading defensive projects now for "now" pieces. It's much more valuable to trade these guys when they have panned out and garner a healthy return on their own. for Canucks side, it's always tough to have NTC in trades and it's even tougher to predict the return they will have based on variables that coincide with NTCs. Either way Edler is our big minute munching guy and whether he is or is not a number 1 dman (he's not) our defence will crumble into pieces without him which pretty much happened this season. but thats my opinion anyways so value wise I'd say it's pretty well thought out and at the very least close to being fair for all teams involved
SaintPatrick33
I clicked because I read 3-way and was enticed.... instead I found this to be one of the better offseason summertime proposals, and it doesnt involve trading McCann! Kudos my friend
Top_Shelf
Well done! Gotta say it's a very reasonable trade proposal.
Quantum
I really like this trade. It's well thought out and all three teams get fair value. I could see Pittsburgh doing this. I fully expect Fleury to be on his way out this offseason. Writing is on the wall for him and with the expansion likely to happen in 2017, if the Pens don't move Fleury now, they may lose him for nothing next season. That and the Pens could easily sign one of Cam Ward or James Reimer as a 1B in the event they don't have all the confidence in the world in Murray (with the idea being that they'd be ok with losing either Ward or Reimer in an expansion draft). Although, in Ward's case, it might make sense to just have his UFA rights be thrown into the deal for good measure on the Pens/Canes part. Regardless, big fan of this proposal. Good work. Hayden Fleury is going to be a big part of Carolina's D for a few years why would they trade there top prospect? Marc-Andre Fleury has been a franchise Goalie for Pittsburgh Matt Murray has had a great playoff run but he still has a lot to prove to be a starting goalie in the NHL. Andrew Hammond last year won 20 of 21 games great end of the season. This year he went 7w 11l. Not saying Matt Murray is going to do the same thing. But there is a lot to prove still. Vancouver 2nd(33rd overall) why are we trading our 33rd overall pick. Should be a pretty good player Beau Bennett Pending RFA unlikely to be given up on. And Carolina has 11 picks this draft year and only 26 players in organization signed next year. 16 pending RFA going to July 1st. I think they will focus on signing own prospects before adding more RFA's. Derrick Pouliot Canucks get another 7-9 D-man? we need a top 4 not a 30 game a year player. Do you think Pouliot will be a future NHL star or a big min man in the NHL? In short. Canucks give up 1 top 2 d-man, 2 highest goal scorer last year and arguably the heart and soul of the team with all the extra community stuff burrows does. Pittsburgh goes all in with a goalie who has not started more then 10 games a season in the last 3 saeasons. Carolina Creates more goalie drama for my boy Eddie. Trades best prospect I don't see this trade happening. That being said, it was a great read and would love to hear more from you.

I think the concept is really good. But Ryan Murphy was over rated when drafted. Maybe a disappointment now? Not sure the value added to Fleury to command a 33rd pick, a starting goalie & Bennett. I think that 33rd has to go to Pitt for giving up Pouliot, the most valuable piece in the deal, and a starting goalie. And Carolina can keep Murphy. Who would & will be on waivers in Carolina, Pitt or here anyway...
Hookman
Very fair trade all around, but very rare to see 3 way deals in the NHL especially with the amount of players on the move. I personally would do it but what do the Canes do with Ward? Lack?. Also do the Pens think they have a new number one in Murrary. Lot of moving parts but well thought out proposal.
