[Disscussion] What Would It Take To Get Winnipeg's #1 Pick?

Recommended Posts

A tough nut to crack this one.

A big disappointment this year for the Peg. They were really expected to make the playoffs this year but.

So, with the possibility of expansion and the need to protect players, they didn't lose much money but, the other teams within their division and fan expectations, where is the lever that could be a deal too good to refuse?

I think fan expectations would be one, making the playoffs and maybe a little cap space.

They have enough cap space to deal with Trouba and Scheifele now with Ladd gone, but they might want to bring him back.

Parts of their team they "might" want improvement or depth, goal, center if Ladd doesn't return, more picks/prospects.

Seeing as how the Peg will get either Laine or Mathews;

Over pay is the necessity for the Nucks;

Center - Horvat

Goal - Markstrom

Picks - This years' 1rst and 2 - 2nds next year.

Plus retain salary or trade for salary relief and/or expansion protection. Stafford for .....McCann or Barsetchi or ?

Nothing.

Nostalgia alone over the Teemu Selanne/Patrik Laine comparisons will keep the pick in the Peg.

As far as packages, Horvat isn't a necessity with Little and Scheifele manning the Top 2 center spots. Markstrom is not only not a proven #1, but also is an upcoming UFA soon.

If you really want to have a chance with any pick in the Top 3, the package must immediately start with Boeser and Demko, because they are the only prospects we have that have been touted near (but not quite) the same level as the Finns and Matthews.

No No No No No.

Horvat- Future Canucks Captain

Markstrom- Who will be backup goalie this year? Why does WIN need another backup goalie?

Picks- 5th Pick this year, 33ed pick, and what looks like 31-40th pick next year with this trade?

Salary Relief- Why are we trading McCann or Baertsch?

Baertschi- Sven just had a great year with a lot of growth why are we giving up on him?

McCann- He should be taken off the arm chair gm forum for 2 months. Give the people a break and be original please. He is 19 years old, He did not fail this year. The fans failed him.

Don't put Mathews in the mix Leafs are going to draft him.

Laine is a great player but there has been busts at the 2nd pick before the draft is a gamble. Why are we over paying for a player that has not played in the NHL yet?

This Trade does nothing for both teams.

What it would take wouldn't be worth it.  It would gut this franchise for the next 5 years.  This has been discussed.

How?

How many #1 picks made this team over the last 13 years? 1? 2? How many have pushed Henrik out of his position?

:)Horvat as future captain, no one else?

Markstrom - didn't they have serious goalie issues this year

5th pick this year, might/could end be the best for the next decade until they change the rules, 3 or 4 number 5 picks?

Salary relief - Their cap relief, not the Canucks, maybe dealing Stafford back this way.

Sven and McCann - just numbers, if a deal got done the pick replaces Sven anyway, they are just assets on a really bad team but they have "potential" or "hope of improvement" so the team is really dealing a possibility.

The years of bust are long gone now, there is so much data on these players if the team needs to know, heck they can tell the team how many breaths the players takes in a shift if they want.

This concept would put the Peg into a playoff spot in their division and add depth where they need it.

And Markstrom is the piece they are missing?

They have Comrie coming up. IE Winnipeg's Demko

Drew Stafford is not the make or break cap propblem that the Jets are looking to fix.

They only have 1 more year at 4.3M per with Stafford. If they want to dump salary they will dump a long term salary.

And im still trying to figure out what the exact tade is

Who do the Winnipeg jets get.

I want to see names and picks lets go simple.

Winnipeg Gets

Vancouver Gets
