TheGuardian_
Okay I posted about draft picks. If it is all about winning now then the same thing still needs to be done, trades. BUT let's start with signings, UFA possible signings. Stamkos - 10 mil with term. Lucic - 5.5 with term Ladd - 6 mil with term. Eriksson - 4.5 mil with term. The cap hit could be figured out to less by front or back loading the contracts or staggered bonuses Gilliman would figure out in a heart beat but there is no one on the Canuck staff to do that now so everything has to simple and be able to fit on a napkin. Puts the team over the cap so some players have to be moved; easiest would be Tanev and Hansen, probably get decent 2018 picks backs. Super simple, just offer until someone signs, no thought involved. As there are no team's that will break the unwritten rule and offer sheet RFA's this doesn't leave many options. Cap hit of 59.2M Salary Cap of 74M Cap Space 14.7M ish SIGNINGS PUT US AT 85.2M 11.2M over cap. What type of VOODOO magic is Gilliman going to do? TheGuardian_
I should have made the list of all the UFA's, I am sure then posters would figure out it isn't list to sign them all, it is a Benning list, start at the top and stop when you run out of cap space. The list is by the most important thing for the Canucks, the missing age group. Once out of money the job is done for the year because there is no cap space. Riviera82
Maybe it's just me but it seems like most, if not all, contending teams are primarily "home-grown", not cobbled together with a bunch of other teams former stars. Perhaps the Canucks should try being patient and going that route rather than looking to buy a quick fix, if that's what they're thinking about doing. Pears
Do you have any idea on how the salary cap works/what it is? Not to mention Gilman was let go months ago.

TheGuardian_
Okay, here is another idea of FA's Sign Kovalchuck and Lucic. Kovalchuck is eligible to return to the NHL this coming year. Lucic will probably be available due to LA's cap woe's. The defence was overall, middle of the road, so with a couple of potent scoring lines (threats anyway) pressure should ease in the d zone. Kovalchcuk I still good enough to be effective for a few more years, he would be a great signing if there is expansion. Lucic would be a good "power forward" mentor for Virtanen or Pedan if the team wants to put some meat up forward. Both these guys have a much better injury track record than Eriksson and would last as long as the Sedins.
elvis15
Yeah, because Kovi would come back to the NHL to play in the Western Conference, with more travel, on a rebuilding team...
