Ticketmaster Forced To Give Discounts After Losing Class Action Lawsuit

If you've ever begrudgingly paid an additional "order processing" fee or exorbitant shipping costs for tickets on Ticketmaster, you aren't the only frustrated one. Filed in 2003, the Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster class action lawsuit claimed that these fees "are excessive and deceptive." Now, 13 years later, the case has been settled.

For anyone who ordered tickets between October 21, 1999 and February 27, 2013, you may be entitled to discounts on future ticket purchases through the ticket service. Email notifications have been going out to all members of the class action suit, starting on April 25th and running through June 18th, though most will be going out towards the end of that period. The emails will include a ticket discount code that can be applied to future purchases.

If a certain threshold ($10.5 million) is not used within one year, then Ticketmaster will also be forced to start offering limited free tickets to class action members for events hosted at Live Nation venues. Live Nation purchased Ticketmaster in 2009, to the tune of $2.5 billion.

and no money returned..just ticket discount vouchers.

Yea its amazing what big corps can get away with....a "discount" on future ticket sales really means there is no financial punishment at all for ticketmaster. Kudos to those who brought on the lawsuit, but it is yet another example of justice made to benefit big business.

Well with most businesses you can just say screw these guys and go to a competing business instead. Except Live Nation has a monopoly so they dont care if you hate them. They know you hate them and they know you will keep using them. What a Fd up way to run a business.

It happens sometimes with a monopoly as they have the freedom to set additional prices.  This reveals the true character of the businesses upper management.  If you were in their shoes, would you have done the same thing?

I have spent probably close to $10,000 on ticketmaster. I go to a lot of concerts, comedy shows and sporting events.

Dissapointed that lawsuit is only for USA and Canadians can't apply.

Even if you have bought tickets through american outlets..that sucks.

Well management is beholden to the share holders not the buying public. Its generate revenue or we will replace you with someone who will.

well worth ripping people off for 14 years for them, sucks to be a normal joe in this day and age

It's amazing what "normal joes" can do if they get together though.

These big businesses and corporations want people to feel futile and helpless, to the point where any idea of mass gatherings and protests are seen as pointless.

They're not. It works, but it requires being organized and committed to the cause. And it requires numbers.

Sadly though, North Americans are amongst the most neutered (mentally) of any populous on the planet. The majority of North Americans live to be distracted and assuaged by their possessions to the point where they're numb to reality until it bites them in the ass.

Change won't truly happen until the majority are left with no other options, and by that point it may be too late.
