[Speculation/Rumour] Teams in on World Champ FAs (Canucks in on Kempny)

13. Free agents at the worlds: One GM had a good line about Vadim Shipachyov, who leads all scorers with 13 points in seven games after the preliminary round. Asked if he was having any luck signing him, the exec replied, “I’m trying like everyone else.” So it’s pretty intense.

Czech defender Michal Kempny has some outstanding possession numbers. Buffalo, Chicago and Vancouver are among his most serious pursuers. Former Florida Panther Evgenii Dadonov, who played 55 NHL games from 2009-10 to 2011-12, could be making a North American return as well.

As for Alexander Radulov, I’m not sure what to say. Still think Detroit and Florida are waiting. There are also wildly conflicting rumours of Colorado’s interest (or non-interest).

Obviously Kempny is of interest since we're in on him (and of course we'd all love Shipachyov). 25 years old, 6ft, 174-194lbs depending on site, left hand shot, and 21 points in 59 games for Omsk in the KHL. Apparently Chicago was been close to signing him for a couple months and that makes sense for him to try and earn a spot on their left side more than ours.

With our current logjam I don't necessarily see a fit with us unless we don't sign Hamhuis and move Edler or Sbisa. But plenty of things to wonder about, and we'll see what happens as these rumours develop more.

^ That was indeed in there as a bit of a side piece. No idea the validity, but it's still out there for what it's worth.

It's more than a side piece, it's been going around since just prior to Tallon being repositioned within the Panthers org.

And regardless of how fast Vancouver tried to squash it it looks very funky to see him re-positioned and Vancouver coming out jumping in denial

That Tallon rumour has persisted for a long time now. I think Friedman has been the only one pushing it? I wonder if it has some serious legs or is it just Friedman trying to push Linden's buttons for the phone calls?

Regardless of the Tallon rumor, what position would he take here, and what would his responsibilities be?  Were there not rumors about the us getting another person between JB and TL?

Technically everything is a side piece after the initial part of the article, but I know it's been around awhile. I don't see it being much more than an option to explore vs anything with a serious probability of happening, but it's interesting as well.

bet me to this story - CDC goes nuts for any canuck mention.... we need D badly but we also need a 1st line to bump the Sedins down the chart. free asset ; hope he signs here and not Edmonton or Chicago (who seem to get them all these days).

Reading EF's comments, makes you wonder if the Canucks and Blue Jackets look at swinging a trade for the #3 pick. JB and co are definitely sour losing out on the top 3...

Trevor moving up to President of the club, not just of hockey operations, was a rumor. Tallon could then take over as President of Hockey Op's I guess.

Just reading Elliott's 30 thoughts, Travis Green expected to interview in Anaheim... Things brings me to something I've benn wondering for a while, I thought Willie D signed a 2 year contract? Wasn't that a big deal when he was signed, that he took the deal that was less years than Pittsburgh offered him? Or was it 3 years vs. 4 years in Pitt?

It sort of seemed to me that, like with Tampa, the succession plan was to have Green take over after Willie's contract expired...

WD signed a 4 year contract.

Let Tallon take care of contracts, trades, and pro scouting. Benning can focus on drafting and amateur scouting.

It's sounds like you two have this figured out for what's best for our team.  Now one of you phone our owner (what's his name...fill in the blank) and tell him to get moving on this!  The draft is coming soon.  We know JB will draft well, but we CANNOT let him make any more trades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Was that enough exclamation marks?

Tallon just made the comment after his promotion to president of hockey ops, that he can now focus on what he's good at - he listed scouting, development and mentoring, and that he no longer has to spend time on contracts and cap issues.
