Roll up, for the latest assembly of slightly fading music stars taking the stage together under the guise of it being a “supergroup”. Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Rage Against the Machine – minus singer Zack de la Rocha – have reportedly come together as a new band called Prophets of Rage.

Billboard reports that the band will make their live debut on 3 June in Los Angeles, performing songs by all three bands.

A website called ProphetsOfRage.com launched earlier this week, carrying nothing but the the slogan #TAKETHEPOWERBACK and a ticking countdown to 31 May. The site was accompanied by posters around Los Angeles reading: “Clear the way for the Prophets of Rage. The Party’s Over. Summer 2016.”

The combination prompted speculation that it might be a Rage Against the Machine reunion. Rage have not released an album since Renegades in 2000 and have not played live since 2011, though they have often hinted that they might be working on new material.

If there ever was a need for songs from Rage, now is the time. Some of the most politically charged songs ever written, although I do not know if Chuck D can match De la Rocha's vocal power.

Both Chuck and B Real will do just fine.

Saw them in '93 at Lollapalooza at Thunderbird and '94 at the Plaza of Nations, which cost $12.

One of the legitimate few groups I would care about touring again. Too bad it is minus Zach, and I knew that would never happen, but this is close enough. If I get a chance I'm going.

There is still a place in the world for honest and righteous anger. There are some things worth being angry about.

The first Rage Against the Machine record has to be one of the five best albums ever written. Killing in the Name, Know Your Enemy, Bombtrack, Bullet in the Head, Wake Up, Freedom... Such amazing songs...

I'm not sure if you've heard them speak about this but their first gig was at a house party when they only had something like four songs. They played those songs and the crowd made them play them over and over. And I would say they created something unique for their time and place.

You see....this is the difference between artistry being organically formed and today's studio assemblages of 'performers.' Those that cut their teeth on the streets versus those who are promoted because they won some talent competition.

This all comes down to conscious consumption of what type of artistry the public wants to support. I know where my vote goes.

The dude that climbed the poles and fell that required ambulance to come?

Those lights on the ambulance helped the show. Perfectly timed.

Edit: saw some great shows there. Pearl Jam three months after Ten came out ($8), Jamiroquai, Fugazi.

I'm now going to be late for work because I started watching this. It's pretty funny to see a constant flow of people walking by the stage while they play their songs. This was a year before they released The Machine, and the crowd had a slightly different vibe than the house party mentioned by @theminister

Freedom. Yeah.

Is that from the side stage at the first Lollapolloza?

In the crowd's defense...they were probably all pretty high.

And they weren't exactly an afternoon sunshine band for full effect. :lol::lol:

I saw that Pearl Jam show there too. I remember Jeff Ament getting brained by a can of Sprite and leaving the stage. Eddie Vedder picked up his bass and played it. Glad Jeff returned in short order. He probably heard Eddie's bass playing...

That's exactly what happened.
