MaxVerstappen33
This way we leave more money on the table for Stamkos or Taveres down the road. But we still have a servicable veteran D man back there

Bigturk8
Our depth currently looks like this Tanev - Edler Hutton - Sbisa Tryamkin - Biega Larsen Pedan I believe all of them are waiver eligible except for maybe Tryamkin but I believe he has an out clause and said he would return to the KHL rather than play in the A. I'd say we'd probably lose Pedan and Larsen to waivers if we tried. Not sure about Biega. That's 7, potentially 8 D-men that pretty much have to be up with the club. Even if Biega were sent down, we would still need to move someone to clear up another roster spot and keep a 7th in reserve. Not saying it won't happen because there's obviously a lot of room for improvement in that lineup. I'm just saying that there will have to be changes made to facilitate the idea of bringing in Campbell or any other FA D-man.

That opens up another roster spot for a D.

I think he'll likely be kept on as a utility to fill in either F or D. I'm not convinced that JB is going to give up on him as a D-man, but I'm sure he would use that option in a bind. I suppose it could work like that and have Pedan fill in as the 7th should a regular D-man go down to injury.

I accept he's no where near Burns or Buff, but maybe having a guy who can play wing and D in the lineup is really good idea? Like you say it's kind of insurance in case a D gets hurt during a game. He could be moved somewhere to make room

Like I said, I'm not saying that changes won't happen, but I expect that at least one would have to happen for this signing to take place. It could very well be Larsen. kloubek
So you want a guy who made over 7 million to play for 2 million? He is certainly not the player he used to be, but he still put up over 30 points last season. If we could snag him for 2m, I'd be ok with that, but I imagine he signs elsewhere for over 4. And at 7 mill, he had one of the worst contracts in the league. but yeah u could be right. I dont know where his stock is. 4 feels like too much
kloubek
To determine his worth, you just need to look at comparables of other players who have scored about the same, and are not young pups anymore: Alec Martinez: 4m Matt Niskanen: 5.7m Andrej Sekera: 5.5m Trevor Daley: 3.3m I think given the others, 4m is a reasonable amount to expect him to get... especially on a UFA market, and especially considering that the term that is being presented here of 1 year isn't going to help get him on a discount. With the exception of Trevor Daley, all of those players are under 30 and their contracts all expire before 35. From what I can tell, in long contracts, you're essentially paying the cap hit for the prime years and absorbing it for the older years. I don't expect any of them (except maybe Daley) will be worth their cap hits when their contracts end. At 36, it's expected that there will be a decline in Campbell's play. With all that in mind, I'd expect somewhere between 2.5M - 3.5M. Higher end if it's a 1 year contract, lower end if it's 2-3 years.

The Weasel
He used to have a giant contract. I doubt he'd sign for cheap, especially for us. If he ever did sign for cheap, I bet he'd head back to the Hawks.
