Nuxfanabroad
Pitt wins 2016 Cup..leaving TO with 1st round book ends(#1 & #30 OA). TO sends: Book end 1sts, & Mitch Marner(or Nylander, if preferred) Edm: McDavid(wants to get away from a Messier province) Okay..maybe a tad unlikely. How's the value though? Imagine Matthews, Marner & Draisatl down the middle(making RNH expendable)?! So then deal RNH for Trouba or Hanifin. Their fans would be rather spoiled, with a new building, to boot. Edm would still have the #4OA pick, as well Bet the league would LOVE McDavid in the continent's biggest hockey market. League-wide cap prob catapults(lol).. Admittedly, it would be very interesting to see how hockey's biggest young star would look in the COTU. That point of interest can't be denied. ChampStatus
I don't think Edmonton says yes. Edmonton does not need more 1st round draft picks lol.
SaintPatrick33
I think Toronto is just waiting for McDavid's contract to run out. Unless the Oilers suddenly turn into a powerhouse, McDavid walks and will probably want to play for his hometown team
Toews
Edmonton would say no. Also Marner is a RW, he is much better on the wing than at center. That's his ideal position.
BCNeil
I think with the new arena in Edmonton and all the hype, they really really want to make the playoffs this year. I don't think they will no matter what they do this summer.....but trading McDavid for Matthews, would push their dream another year down the road. Harvey Spector
I highly doubt TO does that trade. Matthews and Marner are both elite top line players. Throw JVR on LW and that would be the makings of an elite top line. They also have Nylander who will play on the second line. If they don't get Stamkos this summer they will just wait for Tavares to come home in 2 years, he definitely won't be staying on the Island. Either way they will have 2 elite centres in a couple of years and I'm betting Lamoriello will find a way to fix the D and get a front line goalie. They have blown up that team on purpose because they have a 5 year plan with Babcock and Lamoriello in charge now. They lucked out with Matthews and Marner looks to be a gem. Once they pick up a few UFA's with all their cap space and their draft picks over the next 2 years pan out and start contributing they will be a solid playoff team in 2-3 years. desiboynux4lifee*******
Mitch Marner is dominating the playoffs right now, Marner might turn out to be the real deal eg a career TOP 6 in the NHL rankings. This guy has magic hands, reminds you of Kane but has a gritty side.
Nuxfanabroad
To land a local boy, wonder-stud like McD, can't help wondering how much TO would add to the #1OA selection? Almost like them getting Lindros(young, that is); or Mtl landing the Mario-pick. Rogers could market that to eternity.

He's extremely light, and will get injured (often) if he doesn't control that side of his game.
BowtieCanuck
Considering how obvious it is that McDavid has the highest potential ceiling of ANY player in the NHL right now, EDM would be morons to trade him.
BI3KSA-
There is no way Edmonton even considers this. In fact, they probably hang up, rip the phone out of the wall, fly to Toronto and strangle Shanahan with the phone cord for even uttering McDavids name. All theatrics aside, this package isnt even close. These are two completely unproven prospects vs a McDavid that already surpassed a point per game average in his rookie season, and his team wasnt even good, and he was/got injured. Hes the real deal and very little in the league matches his value now.
clam linguine
I like your proposal. I think Edmonton should do this deal from a hockey perspective, but it would be bad from a PR perspective, especially with more casual fans.

The best way I can describe him is that he is "slippery". He skates like Karlsson in the sense that his straight line speed isn't MacKinnon level, but his agility/turns are elite. They are Kane/Karlsson esque. He can stop and turn on a dime. Actually Button just tweeted this out yesterday: Craig ButtonVerified account@CraigJButton @LeafsHub @oak_leafs He's a special & unique talent. Another thing about him, despite opponent's best efforts, he rarely, if ever, gets hit.

After Edm trades away Gretz & Messier, next is McDavid AND even Matthews! :^) Edm fans go postal... 1OA to CBJ, for Seth Jones, & their #3OA. They draft Puljujarvi. Yak & their #4 OA to TBay, for Drouin. Yzerman can add a top ELC-kid, for his coming cap/contract-crunch. Deal away the malcontent, after fetching nice value. Keep RNH instead. roster: Drouin - RNH - Puljujarvi Hall - Draisatl - Eberle Maroon - Marner - Korpikoski Hendricks - Letestu - Kassian xtras: Pouliot, Lander? Sekera - Jones Klefbom - Fayne Nurse - Gryba What a great young roster to open a new bldg with! In a couple years, would be a serious competitor. About 6~8 mill under the cap too. SO THEN: McDavid in COTU Matthews in Ohio Pulju, Seth Jones & Drouin in Edm. You heard it here first! :^)

A little soon to be calling Mathews or marner elite. Top line players. Especially marner, Only player who's a leaf with the chance to be elite is reily. Marner and nylander will never be elite imo. Trading away the most skilled hockey player in the last 20 years is a good idea how?

So Reilly is gonna be better than Marner and Matthews and Matthews and Marner won't be top line players? How do you know Marner won't be elite? Is it the 242 points in his last 2 years of junior that is swaying your opinion, or maybe it's the 44 points in 18 games in the playoffs this year while turning Matthew Thachuk into the second coming of Lindros that's making you think he's not elite? No need to get upset. First off Mathews isnt a leaf yet. Second What have they done in the nhl? You uses the term elite !st line for them. kane ovie they are elite 1st line players. Until A player is elite in the nhl, you cant call him elite. Points in the chl don't translate directly to the nhl. for example sn did an article about how badly numbers are inflated. The leading goal scorer would have scored 11 goals in the nhl.Im not saying marner for sure will be a bust, but lets see him play against men before we call him elite.
