Time for the 2nd quarter of the season studs, meh, duds on our strong LA team

Studs

- Zuccarello has been a clutch contributor to the team, recording a point in all but 3 games in January. Hope that he keeps up the good work as we continue to be in the hunt for the division crown with the Western Conference title well out of reach

- Faksa also had a great month, putting up 10 points in January, including a stretch where he had 9 points in 7 games. He's going to be key if the Kings have any aspirations of winning the Cup this year (thanks @somethingvery :P;))

- Nyquist played great, putting trade rumours aside, putting 8 points in the month of January with 7 points coming in the last 10 games. Here's hoping he keeps this production up as he's had an up and down season so far.

- Ward played out of his mind for the most part, even during the 'Canes' recent slump, playing admirably well in Quick's absence, winning 5 games in January and has started the month of February with a win. Hope that it's a sign of his fortunes turning around and leads the 'Canes to the playoffs.

- Bozak had a hot January, scoring 11 points in the New Year, including a stretch where he had 9 points in 7 games. Hope he keeps it up as he is a big part of the LA Kings offensive group and the Leafs' as we try to win the division crown which has become a tight race.

Meh

- Tanev and Seabrook had a quiet month to start off the New Year, recording 2 and 4 points each which isn't bad for Chris considering he has other responsibilies on the Canucks but disappointing for Brent as he had high expectations to deliver with the contract he has, but recorded a point in their last game in January vs the Sharks so hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

- Kuemper had a solid month, posting a 2-1-1 record, but due to Dubnyk's stellar season he has been given very little starts. Also half the starts he was magnificent while in the other pair of starts, he was horrendous, though his last couple starts suggest he is improving and could play lights out if Dubnyk needs a break or two as all teams in the NHL are entering a heavy stretch.

- Kulemin has a surprisingly great month, putting 5 points in January, but because of the LA Kings expectations for him, we were expecting a bit better from our middle 6 winger. Hope that he improves on the output he had in January with a fresh month beginning.

Duds

- After a blistering start to the year, Kesler only put up a dismal 6 points in the month after recording a hat trick on New Year's day. We expected better from him but every player goes through a rough stretch at some point and hope that he bounces back in the month of February.

- A pair of our 4th liners in Bellemare and Kelly had dismal months of January, registering 2 and 1 point(s) respectively. Of course, we didn't have heavy expectations on them but we expected to chip in with the odd goal or two and they just couldn't find twine. Hope the start of a new month do them wonders

Overall, it was great month of January for the LA Kings and here's hoping the team keeps up its form as they enter one of the toughest stretches during the season. also we are still shopping a couple vets who have playoff aspirations so if you're interested, give me a shout and PM me

On behalf of General Manager @wallstreetamigo, the Tampa Bay Lightning are delighted to announce the re-signing of:

Aaron Ekblad - 3 years, $5.5m AAV

Tampa is thrilled to get Aaron locked up for another three seasons. Aaron is a key member of our blueline and is someone we will be leaning on heavily going forward. Thank you to Captain for a quick and positive negotiation process. We look forward to seeing Aaron step into his role as our franchise dman.

With Ekblad and Horvat re-signed, Tampa's attention will now be on building around them.

we are happy to have Mirco, Duncan, Jesper, Radek and P.E. locked up for a few more years as they have brought nothing but hard work, dedication, game in and game out while having a smile on their faces. Hope they continue to provide it as we continue to build the next core that will play alongside them in the nearby future. edit: forgot to thank @Captain Azzy for the negotiation process. is it too late? ;)
