LEAGUE ANNOUNCEMENT

In looking at prospective expansion draft lists, I have noticed that some teams - as they stand - will not meet the requirements for the draft.

ALL teams MUST expose at least:

- One defenseman who is under contract in 2017-18 and has played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.

- Two forwards who are under contract in 2017-18 and have played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.

- One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club's protected list.

Any teams found not to be able to meet that requirement will have their GM removed and may have draft picks sent to Las Vegas by way of compensation.

FYI, the main cause of failing to meet the requirements is that you are first required to protect players; in so doing, some teams do not have any eligible players remaining due to the sheer number of rookie and rookie +1 players on their teams.

New notes in the OP, including news of CDCP's trade deadline. Better prepare yourself for multiple offers for your 4th round pick...

32 4th round picks in this year's draft. @thejazz97 has 16 of them, @canuckledraggin has 3, @wallstreetamigo has 2, and @Jam126 has 2. That leaves just 9 other GMs in possession of a 4th rounder!

Wow!

...If I was a young free agent, I'd be wary of a team having such a future log-jam of talent...

Tampa has several players available for trade that will fill these requirements and are happy to take rookie and rookie +1 players back.

Is it better than getting fired and giving up draft picks? Lol

There is only like a handful of teams that it even applies to, and its because the metro basically drained their assets repeatedly.

Not that it matters. I'd say the onus is on those who need to make trades so that they don't lose assets to expansion and not vice versa. Super easy to sign or trade for Expansion Fodder. It's another thing to acquire expansion protected assets from other teams. Vegas is gonna have a fun time picking from metro teams, who have basically assembled All Star game rosters.

I personally don't care enough about losing a good player in expansion to try to build my team around it. It's just a cost of doing business to me. I will minimize the risk where I can but it doesn't rule every decision I make.

Columbus is also open to All-Star-worthy offers on Derek Ryan, Joseph Cramarossa, Brock McGinn, Kevin Bieksa, Jordan Nolan, and Devin Setoguchi.

That's fine of course, and a good approach to have to this situation...

I just know not all GM's share the same mentality, as evidenced by some of the proposals I have received these last couple of days :P

Ya me too.

I take exception to your insinuation that all my players are "journeymen" by the way lol
