Thank you to @Herberts Vasiljevs for the excellent negotiation process. Lots of ideas floated around, respectful discussion, and a real willingness to flesh out a deal from both sides perspective. A pleasure to deal with him. Tanks to MM for the quick processing as well.

This is a tough trade to make for sure. With our defense already thin, trading another top dman took careful consideration.

In the end, this deal checked off a lot of boxes for us and so we pulled the trigger. First, it gives us future cap flexibility as we continue to retool our defense. A secondary benefit is the current playoff nature of these players.

We do not see either player as purely a rental at this point though. We are definitely hopeful that they can fill longer term positions for us.

We also cleared a few roster spots  overall which gives us flexibility heading into the trade deadline and the offseason.

We are loaded at forward now and are actively looking to acquire both a top 2 (or 4) young dman and also younger waiver ineligible depth defensemen and NHL ready prospects.

Thank you to Andy, Sergei, Alex, and Shane for their service to the Lightning and welcome to Melker and David.

A few weeks ago you intimated publically you would not trade him for 5 first round draft picks?  William Nylander anyways...

Lets see if you get a 20 year old expansion safe rookie, on his way to well over 50 points. For a potential play off team?

You must be drunk or hallucinating because I've never said anything of the sort.  Your grasp of reality is tenuous at best.

Feel free to quote where I publicly 'intimated' that.   #facepalm

Brian Burke's in your dreams I guess.

On behalf of General Manager @Beary Sweet, the Los Angeles Kings are pleased to announce the re-signings of:

Andrei Markov - 1 year, $4.75m AAV

Cam Ward - 2 years, $3m AAV

We would like to thank @Captain Azzyfor straight forward negotiations. We're glad to welcome Cam and Andrei for the long haul and hope they will help deliver a cup for the franchise in the near future.

small.png  To MIN: Brandon Montour, Olli Maatta

small.png  To CHI: Niklas Hjalmarsson (50% retained until end of 2017/18), Charles McAvoy, Dennis Cholowski, Anton Slepyshev

I'll worry about the loss of thistrade in 3-4 years when McAvoy and Cholowski are finally breaking in. In the meantime Montour is up and coming this year and should be a regular next season and Maatta will be fine.

I feel as though if this trade was voted on league wide that it wouldn't pass. just a thought.

It has upside and downside for both, I don't see any issue.

I feel like Cholowski and McAvoy have more value than those 2 players. 1st rounders that are still bluechip. Slepyshev and Hjalmarsson @ 50% would have been enough for that deal.

Neither player is anywhere near the NHL though, and are no guarantee they'll ever make it. Cholowski could be the next Derek Forbort - if so, that instantly makes this deal a win for Minny.

That is a confusing statement. Forbort is a stud on the back end for L.A. McAvoy is a bonafide bluechip prospect too. It gets even worse the more I look at it.

If Forbort is a 'stud', Ben Hutton is Bobby Orr and Nikita Tryamkin is Thor.
