I actually like players who can hit and block a lot.

It's why I liked Ritchie, and why I was okay with trading a package with the main piece of John Klingberg for a package with the main piece of Dan Girardi.

Granted, I've got none of the players that came back to me in that deal, but the only reason I took that was because Girardi hits and blocks and a player that hits and blocks won't have as much risk of losing consistency as someone who scores.

I agree Jazzy - I also target players who put up large numbers in the 'consistent' categories because goals, assists, +/- can certainly fluctuate, but if a player is a hitter/blocker they tend to do it night in, night out. Recently acquired Hjalmarsson is tied for the lead league in blocks and that stat contributes to him solidly scoring in the mid 3 fpts/g range.

but does this mean you finally admit you were wrong about the Sutter deal?  muahahahaha

I'll never admit that! Jim made a great trade for Kesler... he should have stopped right there. Moving Jared and Nick was beyond unnecessary. A) poor decision expansion draft wise B ) poor decision cap wise

I genuinely really like Sutter... he's definitely a foundational player. It's not about Nick vs Sutter... you can argue both are equally as valuable (although I still give the slight edge to Nick)... it's the 2nd for 3rd, and the huge cap difference + clendenning that bothered me. Forget the picks swapped and clendenning, the cap space and handing pittsburgh the cup is what bothers me

Not many athletes in the history of sports could top the Franchise...

I can hardly wait until Apollo has to renegotiate his contract in this league lol. It will be entertaining i'm sure. I say Captain Azzy should make him sweat it out just for the pure entertainment value for the rest of us haha

Publicly bragging about certain players who are due for a new contract? Should be about a $5m bonus... :P

Thanks to @D-Money and @Monty for the solid negotiation. Thanks to @Master Mind for the quick processing.

We are thrilled to address our defensive depth by acquiring a younger player who is locked in to a reasonable contract. One of our organizational goals was to find another defensive minded partner for either Aaron Ekblad or Justin Faulk. Derek Engelland has played well with both at times but obviously can't be in two places at once. Moving out Jason Garrison and Andy Greene pretty much demanded that we make this type of move. Getting Ekblad specifically going is very important to our team.

We are of course giving up Jaromir Jagr lite in ageless Matt Cullen. With Austin Czarnik and Peter Cehlarik pushing for roster spots and recent acquisition Melker Karlsson in need of an expanded opportunity plus the re-signing of Tom Pyatt, we felt we could afford to sacrifice a playoff warrior and a couple of later picks to address a big hole on our defense.

We had several available options for Matt once we determined our direction but ultimately decided that rather than accepting a pick or a prospect it made more sense to add to the deal to upgrade a key roster spot.

We know that Matt will provide some serious punch for Columbus. We thank him and welcome Brendan to the organization.

We'd like to thank @wallstreetamigo for the smooth negotiations.

We jumped at the chance to get Clayton Stoner earlier this month at what we felt was a bargain price. But that left us with 8 D-men, and a tight cap situation. So although we value Dhillon as a solid D-man locked up through his prime on a contender, here we gained a solid rental, some cap space, and depth assets to work with. All-in-all, it's a deal that should benefit both teams.
