^^ The decision should be to get a watch, what kind of program airs 4 hours late??

On another note, hopefully Vermette gets claimed by a team that will use him in the top 9, I still don't understand that move...

It doesn't make any sense. I've been a fan of a lot of Chayka's moves, but this one is a head scratcher.

The Decision

...Airs tomorrow. Tune into CBJ690 at 10:00AM Eastern for the FuQ@Salter show for live coverage.

After much deliberation, Columbus has decided to take the picks...

... Ahhh, who am I kidding? We decided to take the picks immediately! We just wanted to draw it out for s#!ts & giggles.

Our plan all along was to flip Barrie. Although we were aiming for something that was more current, we are happy with these picks. We basically have the equivalent to a mid-to-late 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to get both Barrie and Sobotka, so even if Detroit is a playoff team it's a win to get then back and keep Sobotka.

...But if Detroit falters (which we're semi-expecting), it could be an epic haul of Kesselian proportions.

So what happens to retained salary when a player is bought out?

Just, y'know, asking for a friend...

Tell your friend nothing changes, since he's still playing out his contract in Puck.

But if he ends up in Europe somehow, then that salary could be voided.

Good to know. I mean, he's only got one year left, so it's not terrible.

Chayka got absolutely rekt on the draft floor, taking Datsyuk's contract from Detroit - who was desperate, between a rock and a hard place with no leverage - and really pining to use that cap in free agency.

That was one of the worst moves I've seen in a long time.  Chayka appears to have had literally no idea how strong a negotiating position he was in - which was bound to only grow stronger the closer they came to July 1st.

Holland literally couldn't believe it.   That was embarrassing imo.

Look what Chicago had to give up to move one year of Bickell.....

Chayka completely misread the market - appears to have been oblivious to how few options Detroit had - and took Datsyuk's cap dump for virtually nothing.

Rookie poker player got made by a veteran that played/owned him.

I wouldn't say he got rekt, but he definitely could have gotten way more than he did.

what did he get jazz?

Datsyuk cap dump, 16th overall

for

20th overall, 53rd overall, Joe Vitale.

Horrible, horrible deal.  That 53rd alone is arguably worth trading up a few spots in the mid/late 1st.

He essentially got nothing for taking on that cap hit.  Absolutely gift wrapped Detroit that deal,

Maybe he was getting pressure from his ownership to take on dead cap?

Regardless, the deal looks God awful right now. Makes 0 sense... But who knows how much pressure he was under from ownership?

How did this guy become gm is beyond me.

We're happy to hear this worked out in favour of both teams! We'll see how that prediction works out though :excl::excl::excl:

Our organization is making defenceman T.Daley available. With our recent acquisition of T.Barrie, Daley no longer fits into our team’s plan. He is a reliable defencemen on a great Pittsburgh team. Daley puts up 2.5fp/g at a very manageable 3.3m per season, with one year left. In return, we are looking to continue our path towards youth by aquiring picks/prospects.

C'mon, you didn't expect us to let you offer-sheet our guy without us at least taking pot-shots, did ya?

...In other news, Columbus is listening to offers on Mike Hoffman.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are excited for the upcoming year of hockey. Last year the team was decimated by injuries and did not ice a 23 man roster until February but that will not happen again. GM Watermelons went into the offseason aiming to improve the team's depth while adding another top six scoring threat.

Although the top six group stays the same for now, the bottom six has been revamped with the additions of Tommy Wingels, Riley Nash, and Johan Larsson. Factoring in another big step from Alex Wennberg, GM Watermelons is confident that depth will no longer be an issue. Barring the inability to add another top six forward, Pittsburgh is confident that Rick Nash will have a huge bounce back year to solidify the top six.

The D group features a new second pairing in David Savard and Jake McCabe. Savard is a consistent fantasy force who provides good category coverage. McCabe is a younger d-man who is expected to take on a bigger role on his real life team (Buffalo) and was named one of the top three players for the 2016 IIHF World Championships. These two help close the gap between the Penguins top two d-men and the rest of the d-core. The defence struggled to produce at a consistent level last year when one of Martinez or Letang got injured.

The team is also excited to see how Anthony Mantha, Shea Theodore, Michael Keranen and Kyle Rau have improved over the summer. All three got a small taste of NHL action last year and are expected to make an appearance with the big club sometime throughout the year.

TRADE RUMOURS

GM Watermelons has been recorded expressing a desire to add on waiver ineligible players to his team. He understands that these players are in high demand and is willing to package a depth player with picks/prospects to acquire one.

3 very good teams (maybe 4) will be missing the playoffs next season.

All the Metropolitan teams that missed last year got better, and the ones that did make it are still competitive.

Injuries will likely be what decides it... meaning Luongo's injury could pose more of a threat that I initially thought...
