He is right.

Who cares about 2011.  5 years ago man. Grow up and get over it.

If, Lucic can bring a cup to Vancouver, why wouldn't you want hi on your team?

Because he played like a beast against us in the playoffs?   Good.  That's what we need.

Nobody had a problem with us signing Willie Mitchell, and he was the #1 reason we lost to Minnesota years back.

Im sick of all this emotional attachments people have to players.

I like who is gonna make us win.

Personally, when is comes to a sport you are trying to win a championship. Not make friends.  I don't care about class off the ice, I don't care if they play dirty.

As long as they win

Love your post. Emotional attachment is for family's and their pets. When it comes to business, (sport or otherwise), emotional attachment can be the undoing of attaining one's goal. People often get emotional attachment and respect mixed up.

2011 was a long time ago and I personally would have signed the guy the next season if that were plausible at the time let alone this off season. If holding a grudge will keep a team from signing or trading for a player that team will have a tough time winning anything.

I think the Sharks would be considered both big and physical.  They have a lot of huge guys, who play in straight lines.  Even their smaller guys play that straight line game.  I'm cheering for the Penguins though.  I hate the Sharks - I heard they have a rat and a weasel, who both kind of smell.

I loath both teams yet am looking forward to the match up. San Jose has a reputation of choking with their present vets. Coupled with Joe Thornton's treatment of the Sedins in the past, this sets up a monumental choke for the Sharks. I'm hoping. I'm not going to argue that they're not good. I just don't like the team, never have.

Yet I think Pittsburg is lacking the goal tending to get it done.

It is good to see Benning bring in bigger players. Tryamkin and Gudbranson are a lot more intimidating and reliable than Weber and Bartkowski. I wonder, with LA and Brown being stripped of the C, his contract is expensive as well and they may not be able to sign Lucic. I know Lucic said he wants to remain a King, but that's what any person wanting to stay put would say. I haven't really been on the Lucic bandwagon, but maybe he could be a  big piece of our top 6. Still, the Canucks need a RW to play with the Sedins. I don't think we have that guy yet, including Hansen. Our D is looking good though.

I still reckon any debate is a bit short-sighted?

We only had one, Tanev, legit NHL RHD on our roster.  At that some geniuses were suggesting trade him? If we could have scored Pietrangelo or one of the premiere right handed D who move, dangle and handle the puck > it would have been preferred to Guddy. But would have cost a hell of a lot more!  Because Pietro at 6'3'' can play to physical match ups & hold his own defensively.

Gudbranson is big enough he can not just hold his own but dominate physically and defensively. Plus has world class wheels. Has no one complaining here played a frickin contact sport against a guy bigger, faster, and stronger than themselves? Boston proved you could make room for the Marchand's & Krug's of the world, if you have a Chara or the Boychuck's of the world. Even some of the world class guys rely on big guys to help them be effective. Niedermyer had first Stephens then Pronger, Keith has Seabrook.

This was slam dunk, no brainer stuff grabbing Gudbranson!

And on to the next piece! :towel:

There was an article on NHL.com about Jim Benning's trade.

The reason why Gudbranson was brought in, was to off course a no brainer here, adding a top4, he's not a just a warm body on the top 4 (Lucas Sbisa), he's literally brought in to play a certain way. That way is too have him for us to thwart off the Cali teams.  He is also brought in to shut down the speedy guys from Calgary, Edmonton, Phoenix.  Did not mention anything about providing us offence, which is fine.

Having him Tryamkin will be fun, add to that Andrei Pedan, oh man, were going to be a very hard team to play against.

Screw draft picks.

this is a no brainer.  Laugh at Edmonton trading the 16th pick in 2015 and the 33rd pick for Griffin Reinhart, ( who can barley even crack the top 6 of the Edmonton OIlers)

although I do wanted them to tank one more year, if Benning can really build up a Stanley cup winner, then go for it.

I would go as far as saying that Gudbranson will have his production increased too. For one, he won't be heavily relied on purely defensive zone starts (57.4 and 59% dzone starts the past two seasons), as the load will be shared between the Edler-Tanev pairing and Hutton-Gudbranson. Moreover, because of the Edler-Tanev pairing, he'll face a slightly lower competition at times. Lastly, Hutton and the forwards will surely be looking to feed the puck back to Gudbranson to unleash his booming slapshot, adding an additional threat to the Canucks offense.

I know we keep referencing his defensive zone starts, but as much as that affects his offence the reverse is true in a sense as well. What I mean is some players get defensive zone starts for their defensive abilities - and that's certainly true for Gudbranson - but sometimes they get less offensive zone starts because they aren't as good at offence. Gudbranson fits to an extent with that as well.

We all know Guddy has a big shot but offence is about more than just winding up and letting rip. Salo didn't just sit at the point and hammer home all those goals, he found seams or adjusted his position around defenders or lines of sight to make it easier for him to get a good shot away. Gudbranson hasn't always shown he has that talent. He has done the opposite on occasion, either rushing, or backing into the corner of the boards and the blue line and lowering his chances greatly.

This was brought up in his review from last season:

Lots of blue dots in that lower right corner. There's more to investigate on this and he certainly could improve, but we'll see what happens with him this year. It may just be that his abilities at both ends of the ice are what keep him in the defensive zone more often.

Well duh. That's the position he plays.

And why hasn't the analytics brigade picked up on him needing to take more shots from outside the blue line ;)

I just read back a page.  It's mentioned there.    Cool place to visit.   I just kinda wish I knew how he felt about it.

Canadian kid coming to a hockey market in a beautiful city. I'm sure he is stoked.

But he was in line to be Floridas captain.   He probably liked it there.

Point man taking too many point shots.  Very alarming.

Nice to hear something from him.

I was having a bad week until I hear the news he was a Canuck. Seriously helped turn my week around.

He and Tanev as top RHD make me swoon, yes swoon. Add in Tryamkins hoped/ partially demonstrated flexibility and we suddenly look to have a no joke situation on that flank.

Larsen is a right hander too.  Maybe Tryamkin will play on his natural side.

Counting Biega, that's 4 righties.

Blew me away too.  Totally out of left field.  I thought there was some kind of a rule that there would be no trades until after the SCF.  Turns out it's rare because teams are still reviewing and assessing

You can trade at any point during the season, but if you trade after the trade deadline, that player is ineligible for the entirety of the playoffs. When both teams are out of the playoffs though, doesn't really matter.
