If Pedan said that I think we should package him up too lol

Pedan to FLA for the 4th round pick back.

McCann and Pedan in the locker room

awkwaaaaard!!!

Reminds me how cool it would have been if Florida didn't trade Tim Thomas to the Stars.

i honestly do not understand the need after a trade

to disparage one of the components of that deal

mccann is a quality player with significant potential upside

there was nothing evident this season to suggest that his personality interfered with his on ice production

he is very young and was thrust into a situation perhaps a bit too early . . but.. . he earned his spot in training camp

that he was not able to sustain his play during the season just speaks to his youth and likely his physical immaturity

by all accounts he will have a decent nhl career

what is really important is that the canucks needed a high potential r dman this offseason

a trade works.. as would a draft pick have worked

to get the 5th overall pick that we can use for a forward draft and obtain a high value, previous 3rd overall, r handed dman is an excellent outcome this off season

that is actually better than i could have imagined

i am very excited by this trade and how it fills a significant need on the team

and i really like the fact that both luongo and mitchell were upset by this deal

and we obtained that by trading a centre, a position where we now have depth, so the overall team strength has increased

and we can still add another high value forward

good job benning and the team brass

now if hamhuis can be resigned as a mentor, perhaps sbisa be moved on, and one significant free agent winger signing

and i like the canucks prospects to make the playoffs next year

Mitchell and Luongo's reactions say as much as the analytics do. Gudbrandson is a valued and respected teammate.

Benning knew that acquiring Erik would ruffle some feathers, mainly stats loving feathers. He also knew that this team needed a player with significant pushback and size on the back end who has mobility. A player that would be engaged and vested with his team right away. A leader.

Sadly McCann had to go the other way, but that's what the butthurt Benning haters don't get. It takes something to get something.

stats loving feathers?  there is really nothing to also love about McCanns stats, were talking 2 goals in the 2016 calender year, struggled to even stay in our top 9, let alone Floridas top 9.   They got themselves a tweener, you also consider Craig Button, Nick Kypreo's, Bill Watters, Pierre McGuires response, they all thought it was a lop sided in favor of VAncouver.  these Canucks hating hacks over at the troll land, (hfboards.com) think its lop sided in Favor of Florida when asked what is the Value of the 33rd pick and Jared McCann the offer is way less then Gudbranson. haha

For Craig Button and Nick Kyprios to say anything positive about the Canucks, it must be a GREAT trade for us indeed.

He's in Africa, but tweeted that he's excited to be with us.

Did he? I only saw him thanking the Panthers and their fans on his Twitter.

Maybe to later leverage him into a stud RHD from an overeager and overconfident analytic guru who doesn't understand how intangibles are actually a thing in pro sports?

Just a guess...

Good post. I talked to JV last weekend and asked him about losing McCann and he implied that they were friends. We traded McCann cause he was worth something and Benning wanted The big Dman.
