All the negativity every time Benning make a trade is very perplexing.  We get a 3rd overall draft pick with 6 years of development under his belt for a 22nd over all player who is still finding his way in the NHL  Yes, we gave up a two picks to make he deal but I bet another deal will go down where we recover those picks.  All this panic and mayhem from the masses is just a bit premature and really a bit immature.

I can see a lot of GM talent coming to the forefront from those who know little, if anything about being a GM  ya right. ;)

The problem is Benning continues to give away draft picks when we need to go into full rebuild.

McCann was expendable. He was going to spend next year in Utica and if he didn't have a great year he'd be worth a bag of peanuts by the end of the year.

Like everyone else has said, giving up the 2nd sucks but what can you do?

I bet Miller and Markstrom like this trade. We have Gudbranson and Tryamkin, forwards are going to think twice about crashing the net.

How the hell do you figure that he was expendable? This team is starved for offense and quality C prospects. He could of been expendable had we won Matthews, sure.

2.  Dubois is likely to be a bust.  Drafting him only makes this trade worse.

3,  Vey and Granlund are marginal NHLers at best.

4.  Are any of them sober?

5.  This is a good thing, no argument.

6.  Leaving us with no leadership on the back end.

7.  Couldn't we have given something else, like Granlund or something?  Adding a 2nd via trade is likely going to be a lot later than our own.

Haters will be haters. Yep, you're one of them.

Wonder if we drop the 5OA for a lower 1st and couple seconds... And then flip a second for another tweener

Tired of reading the negativity and I'm still 50 posts behind.

I'm so incredibly excited, being a fan of Gudbranson and fawning over him these years. In my mind, we gave up nothing of immediate impact and showed the Sedins we are going to go all out to help them hoist that CUP.

(That alone is worth McCann)

(Giving up the 2nd was a calculated move and I trust Jim in these matters)

(I'm excited for beer)

I don't hate the player, I don't like the trade.

I'm sure he will be fine but it doesn't change the fact that we paid too much.

Benning pays fair value. Gillis didn't.

Benning works as a GM. Gillis doesn't.

Last 4 33rd overall picks..

Which of these did you guys want ?

2015; Mitchell Stevens

2014: Ivan Barbashev

2013: Adam Erne

2012: Sebastian Collberg

That pick isn't that good..

Benning's standout quality is his drafting abilities. If anything he should be able to make that pick count.

Loving this trade. We really needed someone solid to pair up with Hutton.

It's great how Benning knows enough about scouting to know that 95% of draft picks end up busting, always amazes me how few in the league seem to understand this point. We have the 5th overall, you don't trade that pick, but any other pick is about as valuable as a bag of pucks.

As much as it hurts intrinsically to give up one of the higher picks we've had in years (I think this is why people are mad; If it's 43 not 33 then no one bats an eye) this is very much true. The value of that pick is far from any guaranteed NHL roster player, let alone someone foundational. This helps bring stability to Hutton or Edler as well and will help the team in the short and long term.

Simply enough

if the Canucks trade Hamhuis at the deadline for a 2nd at least, this trade is fine.

But it the worst part is we're gonna let hammer walk in FA for nothing and give up this many assets to replace him

CDC will always complain about something. Nothing new.

Again, I can see what this does for this team

But for a Canucks team that barely TIED the Oilers blue line for worst offense in the entire league, how is bringing in a guy who scores literally a point, a single point every 9.3 games helping us?

Point is, Florida has a surplus of defenseman and he was expendable because he's going to get paid next season..

He was a monster this year VS NYI in the playoffs.
