Maybe instead of trading for Granlund we could've had something like Hamhuis+Shinkaruk for Schmaltz+Bickell+conditional 2nd (3rd if they don't make it to the conference)? This way Hamhuis trades cap space with Bickell, we take his (Bickell's) cap space off their hands. Shinkaruk is a downgrade from Schmaltz for the Hawks and Hamhuis being a rental makes up the difference and the conditional pick makes up for any value lost in between. I don't usually make proposals and not sure if I'm any good at it but I gave it my best shot at this one haha. Yeah I totally agree with your second paragraph there. I know people were kind of harsh on JB for adding in the 2nd but I feel like that's what stopped a bidding war from happening. I think it was a smart move by JB for sure. I can't even imagine how complete Chicago's defense would look with Gudbranson back there, and his youth would make their team's competitiveness so much more sustainable in the long run. There's news actually that the Hawks are dangling Teuvo in order to get rid of Bickell. Do you think the Canucks should bite? I would say hell yeah we dont need the cap space right now, buuuut we can only keep 7 forwards for the expansion draft. Sedin sedin sutter horvat beartschi hansen granlund We might already be losing etem in the expansion draft. I we acquire tevo without trading one of those forwards we will likely lose another one. The trade might ultimately look like tevo+bickell for granlund. Not that thats even a bad option. However i dont think tevo is a benning player. I also enjoyed talking hockey with you today. i wish my discussions on cdc were like this more often.

It really does make me want to hold off on trading for players since it creates another roster spot left open for the draft. I like your list but in my opinion I would probably save Etem over Granlund. I like what Granlund brings to the table and how versatile he is, but I feel like Etem would be a better save since we're pretty set at centre with Henrik, Sutter, Horvat, and hopefully PLD coming in. Either way, the first three center positions are taken and finding a 4th line centre shouldn't be too hard to fix. Etem provides youth, speed, grit, and displayed great chemistry with Bo near the end of the season. Ah I see, yeah perhaps no to Teuvo then . He was one of my favorite prospects before he made the NHL, and I'd love to get him. But I can see him being worth just a little bit more than Shinkaruk to GMJB's eyes, or at least value in terms of "fitting into the plan" like you mentioned. Also is there an expansion draft thread? If not, we should totally start one. That way we won't continue derailing this McCann for Gudbranson thread. I also enjoyed talking to you too Goose! Glad we've got you around these forums. Virtanen will be okay. By the time the draft starts, Virtanen will only have 2 pro seasons of hockey. The rule is that any player with 2 pro seasons or less will be exempt from the draft. This means Hutton and any pro rookies this year will be protected.

It seems counterintuitive until you realize they need to sway players to stay there, and to cut costs. Bob - Signed after Vezina quality year Tyutin - LNMC Foligno - Just signed Dubinsky - LNMC which was when he re-upped Hartnell - traded for. You don't just get rid of guys like that who had to work his way through the ranks to make it to where he is now. Just because his value is at an all time high? So what? What does that say to the players on the team when you trade away a guy like Jannik Hansen who worked his butt of to get to where he is today?
