In former years this would have been a high price to pay.

As Gillis used to say it's a changing landscape. The price to acquire top 4 d-man has gone way up.

My opinion has since changed on this trade.

What's your opinion on immediately judging trades and throwing shade on the GM while you are at it?

Well to be fair we still need to see what Gudbransson can do as a Canuck.

Let's not forget the disaster that was Brandon Prust, he was supposed to bring leadership, character, and physicality to the team. And look what happened.

What are McCanns analytics?

Nothing special, but he was a rookie.

19th best relative corsi

21st strongest quality of competition

53.5% offensive zone starts, 49.3% finishes.

34.7% in the faceoff circle.

12.5 minutes/game, 18 pts in 69 games.

The thing is - he's 20 years old, and rookie "analytics" don't mean much.

McCann played in a junior program (SSM) that produced a relatively large amount of statistics (compared to other CHL franchises) and McCann fared very well at the OHL level - particularly adept with zone entries, solid two way possession numbers and produced very well in his +1 season.

But there's really not much point or credibility in attempting to apply underlying numbers to a 19/20 year old.  It doesn't really translate.

How old is Goody and when do defenders start to develop?

He's 24 - and I don't know - they're always developing.

Gudbranson is a 20+ hard minutes D at a young age.  He's just scratching the surface imo, but he's already good enough to make a huge impact/difference.

It's one in my opinion that is directly related to size and strength, it seems like the bigger ones (6'03" &^) become more agile around 25-30yrs..

The smaller ones -6'03" seem hit that agility around 22years.

BBurns and ZChara both started to blossom at around 25-26.

Scott Neidermayer (6'0) started to prime around 21.

just my 2bits ;)

Ask yourselves, who would you rather? Gudbranson or Larsson? (Gudbranson IMO)

Again who would you rather? Hall or McCann? (Hall by a mile)

Benning fleeced the Panthers. I swear something is wrong with their GM, some of the players they are trading were a huge part of their success last year.

Larsson>Gudbranson

Hall>>>McCann

I like our deal more than the EDM deal just based on what they had to give up, but I still don't like either of them. Puck possession and puck movement are so important in today's NHL, and everything I've seen/read/studied on Gudbranson demonstrate that those are his weaknesses.

First off, (and not towards you), I am honestly surprised this is still an active thread.

Second off (or secondly?), your concerns about Gudbranson are legit.

But you have to compare who we got to who we gave up.

McCann was undersized, terrible at draws and faltered at the end of the season.

Andrey Pedan said he was the only Canucks member he didn't get along with.

During the Mother's trip, a Mother said she got along with everyone except "that one little 19yo who I like to tease."

Virtanen was the only other 19yo and nobody can call him "little".

On Hockey Wives we saw Virtanen's great relationship with rookie-punisher Prust.

McCann was not good in the room. Not good on the ice. Lots of potential, sure. But you are who you present yourself as. We had enough faith to give him a shot and he wound up souring people.

Gudbranson was absolutely beloved in FLA. His Corsi is questionable. But he was thrown into the worst situations in FLA, and they have only been good for about a year. He's still young with a new system to learn. There is lots of promise there.
