Interesting to read some of the Florida fans' impressions of McCann so far. 0 points in 7 games..   Apparently he is being played on the 4th line, lots of fans saying he should be sent down to the AHL to develop properly....sound familiar?

McCann is not a bottom six player.  He's like Baer, and Shinkaruk - top six or BUST.

And where exactly does he fit in among Florida's top 6?

Marchessault breaking out the way he has is going to make it very difficult for McCann to bump anyone.

My guess is Florida ends up trading him before all is said and done. Barkov, Huberdeau, Bjugstad, Trocheck, Marchessault, Smith, Sceviour, not to mention Borgstrom and Mascherin coming up. There's just no room for him there.

Then why did they ask for him?  I don't get it.

I'm assuming they plan on moving Trocheck or Bjugstad at some point and they wanted McCann to replace one of them.

In the meantime Marchessault emerged out of nowhere and they were able to draft a couple promising young forwards.

It comes down to them not valuing Gudbranson very high though, which is our gain.

Probably.

Problem is he has about 5 or 6 natural centers ahead of him, some of whom are being force to play wing.

He's got his work cut out for him.

Same issue as here.  The Canucks tried him on the wing too, before trading him.  That trade was a HUGE win for JB.  I'm surprised the league didn't step in and refuse to accept that as a trade, it was so lopsided for us.  That's even worse than the Larsen for Hall trade.

As much as I liked the trade you are assuming a lot to suggest Vancouver was the lopsided winner. McCann is only 20 years old! With all the talent that the Panthers have they seen enough in McCann to keep him in the lineup. Vancouver had a bigger need on the d-core than keeping McCann but you would have to look in 2 years to have a better idea of who won.

That's true.  I just don't see McCann getting bigger, without losing his needed quickness.

Why not? Many other players have done it. If McCann was still a Canuck I would be saying the same thing.

Good point.  I loved the guy when he was with us.  Now he's just another also-ran on another team.  Alf is a HOMER, and PROUD of it.  Well, maybe not so proud we are losing so badly now.

If I were Florida I'd try and salvage what little chance of saving McCann's development there may be and send him down to junior for the rest of the year. Get him playing on their top line, learn to play physically against men and win those puck battles, then contend for a roster spot next training camp. He's simply still not strong enough. The skill's there, the hockey IQ's there but the Canucks have destroyed him by burning him out on a losing team for 80 games.

5th Line and downunder are a match made in heaven. glad you two found each other.

yeah, you'd expect that someone who purports to be a 'meat and potatoes' guy would see the value in adding Gudbranson, as opposed to lamenting about ruining McCann, as if he's a fragile little flower.

Anyhow, my question for these two would be short term:  "would you like fries with that?"
