[Trade] Canucks trade Jared McCann, 2nd-round pick, 4th-round pick to Panthers for Erik Gudbranson, 5th-round pick

Great trade. This butthurt attitude about the picks is hilarious. Wow.

Gudbrandson will slot in beautifully in this young burgeoning defense corps. The Canucks blueline is now that much harder to deal with. Benning is making good on his promise on adding tangible size and youth to the team.

Hey guys. Apparently Gudrabnson becomes a UFA next year. Watch him walk on us... and resigns with Florida

He is only 24 - he has already been extended by the Panthers (not even 3 weeks ago) and will be RFA in 2017/18 and not UFA.

I hope Tallon is part of the deal!

In all seriousness.... i like the deal. Gudbranson is a Dman that i've wanted on the Canucks for a long time. He's like a bigger, young and meaner Willie Mitchell.

I dont like the trend of including 2nd round picks in almost all our big deals though... but i think they believe the player they like wont make it past 30 (Jost).

Edler - Tanev

Hutton - Gudbranson

Sbisa - Tryamkin

Take a second to think about that. Everyone is at least 6'2" 180lbs.

Comparing him to Sbisa was an overreaction.

But me wanting a youth movement doesn't really apply here since we traded McCann and a high 2nd to get a 24 year old.

I understand that the writing was on the wall for McCann, but that 33rd pick represents alot of value with good scouting. That's what I'm more hung up on. It could potentially be a McCann and Demko type of value for example, when all is said and done. That's a hefty price.

No, the Sbisa comparison was awful, Gudbranson is a big body good at clearing the crease. Plays with more of an edge than Sbisa, is a natural leader, will be a good partner for more timid players like Edler and Hutton.

Salary this year provides flexibility to retain Hamhuis too.

And most importantly means no re signing of Weber!

Tanev-Edler

Gudbranson-Hutton

Hamhuis-Sbisa/Tryamkin

Pedan

Larsen

Big, Mean and has some skill. The canucks d has been soft as butter.  An embarrassment.   Guys were roughshoding our rookies in the D zone and there was no response.  Goalies were being bumped and all they got was some spa back massage treatment from the likes of Weber and Bartkowski.

This guy will make the opposition think twice and  bring some respectability to the team.  Change of culture coming.

Haha, was just reading the comments of Florida Panthers fans and they're angry because they've traded away their 'future captain'. I laughed because they have Ekblad and others that are better candidates.

And Dubois is a likely bust? State your reasoning. Makes this trade worse? Bro, i'll take Dubois over McCann ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. ANY DAMN DAY. 6'3 205lbs can play wing or center who can score goals and create plays while being physical also a 200 ft player which McCann is NOT.

And no leadership in the backend? What is Edler then? Or Tanev?

And we aren't just going to throw Granlund, we just acquired him and he obviously JB thought his potential far suceeded McCann's. We also have the pieces to acquire a 2nd which isn't a problem. Toronto, ARZ, Jets, Tampa all have 2nd's we can trade for. Granlund, Etem, Hansen, etc.

Dubust produced because he plays in a soft league and had a hot streak to end the season.  He'll be a 3rd liner in the NHL.  Edler and Tanev are good supporting guys but Hamhuis was a huge leader in the room and it's a huge loss.  Tanev isn't exactly a veteran and Edler does better in a supporting role.

You also contradict yourself by saying we aren't going to throw in Granlund then throw him in as a potential move for a 2nd.  Just skip the middleman and throw the pylon in instead of the 2nd in the first place.

A younger player with proven NHL experience to replace Hamhuis.

Canucks overpaid, but at least its a quality player in return.

Looks like Granlund will take McCann's spot next year.

Only if McCann's spot was in Utica.

What's hilarious is people are more concerned with losing an unknown second round pick than a player drafted in the first round two years ago.

A second round pick with a GM who's good at scouting has alot of value. Thatcher Demko is one example of that picks value.
