We plugged one hole and created another, all while giving away assets. no the Canucks traded from a position of strength and were able to bring a very capable top four defenseman to the team by doing so. For me and I assume being a CDCer I overvalued McCann but the 2nd rd pick I am not a fan of trading away.
ilduce39
Fantastic move... Gudbrandson, Tryamkin, Pedan... still need a ppqb but love the bash bros Benning is accumulating on the back end.

DeNiro
The fact that he's a UFA next season scares me. I hope that means Benning doesn't overpay to get him locked up like he's done with other deals.
chon derry
address's the right side on the back end , toughness takes pressure of tryamkin ,pedan to fill that role although I'm sure they can. the necessity for lucic is hopefully out the window, micheal ferland getting run into the boards this coming season by these guys i'm down with that! However, I feel this is the right move for the hockey club. As an outsider looking in...this is a great deal for the Canucks. I know the extra 2nd pick may seem like a lot, but Gudbranson has the potential to be a top pairing stud defenseman. This draft isn't particularly strong beyond the first round so the second pick isn't too bad.

Everyone is at least 6'2" 180lbs. Benning is doing it right. Only Tanev and Hutton lack a real physical game, but have proven their worth in being solid defenders from a cerebral perspective. Type R
So TSN reporting that we sent our 2017 second rounder, not 2016s.. Soooo, whats the problem? That 2017 pick is replaced with the pick coming back from Columbus for Torts..

Blueberries
People here calling Gudbranson a top 4. Guy didn't live up to potential thats all he his. Honestly I'm done with this $*** until Benning is fired.

Thatcher Demko is one example of that picks value. Wouldn't that mean that JB sees more value in Guddy than McCann & the players available at 33rd pick? Trebreh
He's going to be a fan fav Real GUDbranson kicking Hendricks ass for hitting on his star player. Pest control Imagine that is the Hobbit Goodrow he's hitting He also takes on the heavies and does quite well.
Kapt'nCanuck
Looks like the 2nd is from 2017, not 2016 (the 33rd pick) per TSN: http://www.tsn.ca/canucks-trade-mccann-picks-to-panthers-for-gudbranson-1.495863 I like the trade. Also glad to see Gudbranson didn't go to to the Oilers for the Nuge or similar package instead.
Warhippy
4 minutes ago, Rough Neck said: I think there is a lot more to this trade then offense. Defense needs to play defense first. Gudbranson is young and big. Yeah he's not offense, however his defense would open up offensive abilities for Hutton or maybe this college guy we signed. Even Jordan subban would benefit from having a bigger defenseman with him. Honestly I think this is a good trade. Sure giving up a second sucks, but with that being said you get a second round pick who could be okay or maybe even sucks, you never know for a defenseman who is already nhl proven and young. It was a need for a need. Again my issue is if Benning is supposed to be the end all be all of drafting exccellence How can he not see that Clague/Johansen.Stanley/Moverare/McAvoy/Cholowski/Libor/Hronek ALL could be better than Gudbranson. But we'll never know. Again I can see where he wants this trade to take this team with that 21-26 age range. But to give up what is essentially a 1st in McCaan, a late first with the 33rd pick AND another pick is kind of silly for a very stay at home defenseman who is literally good for a point per every 9.3 games. For a team that is starved for offense and who BARELY managed to match the Oilers blueline for offense, this...is not a good move towards what is needed
Monty
Thank god I'm also a Jets fan as well as a Canucks fan. I get to see a stark difference for two rebuilds for two teams I follow closely. One that is patient, doesn't trade away draft picks, and drafts both offense and defense. And one that, well, does something else entirely. gerry35
The stupidity of some posters is pretty shocking, complain about everything. Complain about no defence and then when they get a top guy more complaining.
