[Trade] Canucks trade Jared McCann, 2nd-round pick, 4th-round pick to Panthers for Erik Gudbranson, 5th-round pick

Wow i'm so shocked. Very sad to be losing Mccann. He's so talented and has some pushback. I guess it makes sense with Horvat, Sedin, Sutter, Vey, Granlund etc.. I guess we'll see what Gudbranson brings but i'm pretty disappointed losing Mccann

Wait 2016 or 2017 2nd?

Any confirmation?

It's 2016.... I don't have a link, but Canucks posted it on Facebook. I like acquiring Gudbranson, but they got absolutely hosed here. McCann will be a top 6 centerman. Gudbranson seems to have reached any sort of potential he will hit. The 2nd we give Florida is high, but it's okay. I don't think we needed to give the 4th too. That was basically just giving it away. And we couldn't have given them Vey instead of the 4th rounder?!

I love it.  This is exactly the type of guy this team has needed for years.  Many D men dont get into their prime till their mid to late 20s.  Hard nosed, tough as nails, can play big minutes.  The kind of guy you want patrolling your blue line vs the big King and Duck oaf forwards.

Of course it has more to do with the fact that the first example is more what you wanted which is why you praised it.

Whatever plan Benning has, has proved successful in a sum total of zero NHL franchises.

Don't speed up a rebuild. Draft. Draft. Draft.

Gudbranson is not worth all that. What joke. What a joke. I'm so pissed right now. McCann is gonna be a frackn stud.

He just may be all that, but it was not going to be in Vancouver. For whatever reason, they made up their minds that McCann had more value as a trade chip than a roster player. You don't normally get a shot at a 6'5" 220 pound third overall draft pick who plays a tough, Pacific Division-type game. So he doesn't put up big offensive numbers. So what? He's a right hand shot who played 26 minutes a game in the 2016 playoffs. It would have been nice to have kept the second round pick, but there's a lot of time between now and the draft. Why do I get the feeling that Benning may not be done trading?

So if you trust him to draft with that pick, why not trust him to trade it?

Because his track record of trades is terrifying.  Ownership really should be looking into shutting him down and bringing in a GM who doesn't give away picks like candy.

Don't forget the beast Tryamkin. :D

The full point this poster made was ....Tanev, Hutton, Gudbranson....and don't forget Tryamkin!

So in my opinion this begs the question who do we protect at the expansion draft?

Edlers gone by the Trade Deadline...........if not way sooner!

And don't count Hamhuis out of this mix yet, he played very well at the end of last season

Man, what a juicy trade.

I really enjoy all you people taking a dump on Benning when he addresses our hugest need and yet all the pathetic complaining.

Can't til the meltdown happens on draft day.

nailed it brother.  who has the best player as of right now?  we may have given up potential talent, but we received the type of guy we need and can build around right now.  this franchise needs to get talent on the ice immediately while still building for the future. this trade manages to balence those two needs.

Burke, Nonis, Lowe, Tambellini, now Chiarelli...

Ya they are all a testament to that.

DO NOT pull the trigger early.  Hard to build quality depth when you're picking from the table of everyone else and leaving a tip in the process.

It's exactly why expansion draft teams do not win cups

What is wrong with you people? Everyone OUTSIDE of Vancouver is calling this a fleecing by Vancouver, and I agree! Gudbranson is a BEAST. We're starting next season with TWO 6'5 D-MEN!

Seriously stoked on how hard we just became to play against. We have the size we've been missing for a decade, and you build from the net out. Our goalie situation looks golden, our defence is finally exciting - and not the 'ohmygodwhatishedoing' excitement Edler has been dumping on us. Watch us either move up in the draft or pickup Stamkos. What a good trade. Cry more, babies - thank God you aren't GM's

TSN, the same group that had Iginla going to Boston

I am hoping it is a 2017....that's acceptable, but damn a 2016 is hard to lose with the draft being so close

I mean Gudbranson is a good defenseman... BUT under our circumstances can we afford to give up that much youth?

2017 makes this trade better. 2016 idk.

I am mixed about this trade. JB has more work to do if he wants us to be competitive again. Hopefully his moves and acquisitions work out next season otherwise .

This secures Dubois as our pick.

McCann was going back to the AHL in my eyes. I liked McCann a lot and felt like he had great potential, but was he a future top 6? It's hard to say because he's only 20.

we get a D with potential top 4 and he's a big body and uses it well. He just needs to work this off season on foot speed. I'm assuming JB wanted a D with 2nd round pick which would have been Hajek or Johansson. It's high price to give up but we have a proven D that can step into the lineup vs a potential question mark.

Dubois and Gudbranson. I'm okay with that.

Gudbranson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Barker

just saying.

Just saying, up until Barkers 2nd year in Minni did he fall apart.  Guy was solid.  Chicago sold high on him.

Seem...potentially familiar.  You know, same guy who traded former 3rd overall Barker now traded former 3rd overall Gudbranson...
