[Trade] Canucks trade Jared McCann, 2nd-round pick, 4th-round pick to Panthers for Erik Gudbranson, 5th-round pick

Recommended Posts

The boards are so fun.

Everyone hates watching our small forwards getting pushed around.

I like Jared McCann, but Benning deals him - a 179lb 24th, and a 33rd overall, for a 3rd overall,  6'5",  top 4, right handed 24 year old beast who is still improving and a years away from his prime - and these boards have their typical hissy fit.

Gudbranson is one hell of a hard minutes, hard hitting, outstanding defensive blueliner.

This is what it costs to move up to this kind of asset.

The problem is that some ppl here want things for free. That's not how it works.

I love it.  This is exactly the type of guy this team has needed for years.  Many D men dont get into their prime till their mid to late 20s.  Hard nosed, tough as nails, can play big minutes.  The kind of guy you want patrolling your blue line vs the big King and Duck oaf forwards.

yeah i dont get the outrage. I do think we overpayed by a little but thats  the price you pay for a young top 4 Dman.

this fan base have been softened over the years and have come to accept getting pushed around lol.

In what world is he an outstanding defensive blueliner? He has one of the worse shot supressors on a elite florida team last year.

This is a great trade outside of losing the 2nd round pick, maybe 2 thirds would've been easier to swallow.  Our top 6 defence now looks pretty solid next year and this is going to give Benning the ability to move out Sbisa or Pedan if they resign Hamhuis. Mccann was never going to overthrow Horvat or Sutter in the next 2-3 years and he clearly wasn't fond of playing on the wing. Also, taking into account the fact that we have a very real shot at PLD with the 5th overall pretty much sealed McCaan's fate in Vancouver.

Yakupov was a first overall pick. Is he worth that now? no.

Barker was a 3rd overall pick. Is he worth that now? no

You're assuming those two situations are comparable to Grub...i guess we will see.

My initial reaction was that this doesn't solve our need for a number 1 puck mover.

If this is the type of D-man Benning wanted, could we not have traded down, taken Chychrun and kept our 2nd? The difference is obviously development time though which is probably ownership putting pressure on him.

This trade means we are picking Dubois if EDM doesn't get him.

I've always thought we needed help defensively as well as offensively from our defense. We were crap in front of our goalies and in the offensive zone as a unit. This helps solve one issue but yeah we still have another one. He could hope Larsen can be that guy but we should probably have Weber like expectations on him.

I mean Gudbranson is a good defenseman... BUT under our circumstances can we afford to give up that much youth?

2017 makes this trade better. 2016 idk.

I am mixed about this trade. JB has more work to do if he wants us to be competitive again. Hopefully his moves and acquisitions work out next season otherwise .

I watched Johansen all these last 2 seasons.  He just slipped through our hands the exact same way that the last 10 years of post 1st round pick potential Kelowna Rocket Defensemen have,

Care to see that list?

Weber, Keith, Severson, Bowey, Barrie, Cumiskey

Yup.

Just think of that defense right now.  And think of the years the Canucks did not have 2nd and 3rd round picks in which to draft them.

Saying it now, we're going to regret not keeping that pick if ti IS a 2016 2nd round and we're going to regret not having another local boy in Lucas Johansen RHD point getting defensively responsible player...

Ya

Gudbranson is a terrible defender right now. Do I need to post his hero chart? It is so bad. He was a terrible possession player on an elite florida team.

It's a good trade for the Canucks.  So many of the posters here are uneducated.

They just look at his point totals.

This is a bargain for a top 4 physical dman.  3rd overall in 2010, dman take longer to take shape, upside and a nice contract.

McCann never had a spot on this team in the future.  I thought they would develop him in Utica and at least his trade value would go up.

If he is all of what you say about him how come Florida traded him? him being big top 4 guy as a 3rd overall. Maybe Florida figured out he has hit his ceiling. Of course once he is a Canuck he will magically get better according to the educated.

If the vision Benning is putting together happens on the ice, this team will be less offensive and more boring to watch than the 2002/2003 Jersey Devils

Ummmm,  I see what you did there,  that team ended up......winning the cup::D!

If Larsen's upside is Weber, why the hell did we bring him in?

I think hes also assuming that Yakupov would have bombed on another team.  I think Yak, on a different team, playing sheltered minutes and brought along a little slower, would have been a fantastic player.  They practically ruined the Nuge too.
