I like Jared McCann, but Benning deals him - a 179lb 24th, and a 33rd overall, for a 3rd overall, 6'5", top 4, right handed 24 year old beast who is still improving and a years away from his prime - and these boards have their typical hissy fit. Gudbranson is one hell of a hard minutes, hard hitting, outstanding defensive blueliner. This is what it costs to move up to this kind of asset. exactly this, i'm remembering burn's taking out sedin against the boards with a slightly late hit, the pacific div, is to big ,fast to have small fwd's soft D
wai_lai416
Wait you mean we have a dman that will actually hit and clear people from the crease preventing other teams from running our goalie? Gimme a break people.. Calling gudbranson a bust before even watching a single game he plays.. McCann was never going to succeed here. He's too small to survive in the league.. He spent the entire season bulking up and didn't really achieve much. 2nd round pick.. Sure it's a high 2nd round.. But we are most likely picking a dman there anyways.. And God knows if he will even end up in the nhl.. It's a gamble and odds are it won't be a crease clearing defenseman. By the looks of some of the replies regarding gudbranson it sounded like cdc is trying to run the kid out of town before he even arrives lol classic

I like this trade, finally a hardnosed top 4 defenceman Couldn't agree more. I'm excited to see Gudbranson play. Exactly what the Canucks need right now. A young big minutes defenseman that can help our weak D core. Well done Benning!
shazzam
Our right side is set now in the top 4. If we can add a offensive D on the left side via UfA, our D is looking good

The same GM that traded high on this former 3rd overall defensive pick Is now trading high on this former 3rd overall defensive pick I won't even bother pointing out how our history of trades with the Panthers has worked out for this club. But I will point out that the architect of arguably 2 of the Blackhawks most recent cup wins and the turn around of the formerly woeful Panthers just traded a former 3rd overall defensive pick for an absolute ransom Talon is not the GM of Florida anymore Tom Rowe is

It might not matter if Johansen is picked before the 33rd pick. Under our circumstances, losing McCann and 33rd still hurt though. Never said his upside is Weber, just that those should be our expectations. KHL defenseman coming over, we probably shouldn't think he will light this league. Rather be pleasantly surprised than senselessly annoyed that he isn't doing well. My buddy and I have been saying it for years now If in the first 2 rounds a London Knights forward is available or a Rockets defenseman at your draft position you take them.
