[Trade] Canucks trade Jared McCann, 2nd-round pick, 4th-round pick to Panthers for Erik Gudbranson, 5th-round pick

Recommended Posts

Everyone keeps referring him as a 3rd overall (which he is), but he is actually a 1st overall of his position in the 2010 draft. Just like Schneider was in his draft. Aswell as Demko in his respected draft. Really excited about this player.

I'm impressed. We just got a former #3 overall RHD who's 6'5", 216 lbs and is only 24. Genius. What did it cost the Canucks? A skilled lightweight C who wouldn't have really been given a top 6 spot on the team and a 2nd rounder - to an eastern team. Damn, I'm happy with this trade. Maybe now that Bieber's buddy is gone, Virtanen can focus on his game and grow up a bit.

Love how McCann was suddenly "never going to make it as a Canuck" as soon as he's moved in a highly questionable trade.

As a Canucks fan you should know this is common.

Ok, so what are the other pieces in evaluating Gudbranson as anything more than a bottom pairing d?

That is because when they spend time away from each other (i.e one changes, one doesn't), Cambell actually does better without Gudbranson.

Gudbranson is not garbage your hero charts are. Also, Gudbranson's job is clearing the crease Campbell's job is moving the puck. Something they did effectively as a pair.

But continue posting your stupid little charts.

By the way Willie Mitchell is pissed the Panthers made this deal I'd trust his judgement over a stat sheet poster any day.

Did you ever consider how Gudbranson is deployed during games and actually deconstructing how he dictates the play and the presence he creates? I really don't have issues with Hero Charts, but as I said previously, its only one piece.

If you really think Hero charts are the best way to evaluate a player in the most complete way possible, using one method of analysis is flawed. Its better to use a combination of methods to create the best evaluation you can.

Exactly.

Tell me what statistics or charts can summarize the locker room qualities that make some players captain material  (EG), and some guys wallflowers?

Next year's forwards, even with McCann as an option:

Sedin - Sedin - Hansen

Baertschi - Horvat - Etem

Virtanen - Sutter - Rodin

Gaunce - Granlund - Dorsett

Burrows (McCann)

That's before signing a much needed UFA, from which we'll have the cash. Then you look at our future core of forwards with the 5th overall:

Tkachuk/Dubois, Horvat, Virtanen, Baertschi, Boeser - that would fill in most of the top 6, with Gaunce/Granlund/Etem in the bottom 6. There wasn't room for Jared, either in next year's lineup or in the future core.

But that's assuming every one of those players turns out as expected. How often does that happen? A little internal competition is always a good thing.

Yes he can fight, Dorsett will be happy he doesn't have to earn those extra contract dollars as much now.

I'm just pissed today, so what ever. Gudbranson is a great shut down d man with high d zone starts, but it's the old home run swing for the double trade again. BAH! I know we will feel like we just got our Willie Mitchell back, maybe even Sami Salo, but it's just annoying losing high end skill.

I hear ya. But let's be honest here. Where does McCann fit in next year or the year after? He's not a 4C guy and we can't roll into next year expecting Tryamkin to play big minutes when he can barely breath after a 50 second shift. 6'5 dmen who have played over 4 seasons before his 25th birthday don't grow on trees.

I love this deal.

If the too soft players like the Sedins and Elder are going to be around for years in this hard tough division we needed to toughen up in a big way.

With 2 beasts beasts like Trymakin and now Gudbranson these teams will have to keep their heads up and start to lay off trying the usual bullying tactics against all our softer skilled players.

It couldn't be clearer over the years that when games get tough our team cowers and disappear and I was more than sick and tired of it.
