Any if you who would rather keep McCann and a second round pick that are both unknowns are idiots. Benning killed with this one. Well done Why would they trade him then? I don't think so personally > just asking the question... It definitely could lead to dominos falling throughout the lineup. We just added about 3.5m in cap, assuming McCann would start in the A, otherwise 2.5m. Collectively, not resigning Weber/Bartkowski covers this gap, but we don't yet have a cap number for Larsen - which could be similar to Weber. Then, do we have the money to bring back Hammer or is his cap hit going to supplant the Sbisa raise? I think we've improved from this trade, but there is certainly the implication that we will be acquiring a forward through free agency, as McCann's theoretical spot has been left vacant. On defense, there's less of a need to acquire someone, and arguably makes guys like Hammer/Sbisa expendable, or even as you've suggested moving Edler. The trade makes for an interesting summer. He no longer needs to be top shutdown and 1st PK while trying to provide offence. Guddy would likely take more of those types of roles with Tanev allowing guys like Hutton and Edler to open the ice up more. Does he not play on the right side? I wonder if Benning knows it will be this years and that's why he was more willing to part with the 33rd. Warhippy
Just for fun The 2nd round picks Benning has traded were turned in to Roland McKeown and Rasmus Andersson. Both near PPG defencemen. Both have solid skating and decent size. Our 33rd could be one of McAvoy, Johansen, Clague etc. Again, while one can easily see what Benning is trying to do, and while one can say that the price for Gudbranson is comparable to what has been paid for young dmen lately (Hamilton/Reinhardt) It is hard to not shake ones head at that potential blue line wealth in 2nd round picks

He's a pretty good judge of young talent. Virtanen, Boeser, Demko, Tryamkin. JB doesn't want soft guys. They don't think he can handle the grind and is too small. Like Jordan Subban. Edler-Tanev Hutton-Gudbranson Sbisa-Tryamkin Pedan-Larsen Biega Hamhuis walks, Bartkowski walks, Weber walks, I could see Sbisa or Edler traded for a more offensive defender/high pick. Great trade for the Canucks! anyone think we could do sbisa to edmonton for their 2nd?

Gudbrandson will slot in beautifully in this young burgeoning defense corps. The Canucks blueline is now that much harder to deal with. Benning is making good on his promise on adding tangible size and youth to the team. I'm with you, Blunt. This trade sets the D up beautifully. Wouldn't be surprised to see either Edler or Sbisa dealt now. The Canucks have been so easy to play against the past 5 years. Those days are quickly coming to an end, and that makes me a happy fella. mcgillnuck
Benning's guide to fixing the Canucks defense: Step 1: Trade a great 2nd pairing Dman on a great contract for a 2nd round pick (Garrison)Step 2: Hope Sbisa's awfulness is situation-related, and make him a key piece in a trade for a Selke-caliber C to fill that hole you created when you traded GarrisonStep 3: Even though Sbisa remains awful, sign him to a $4mil/yr contractStep 4 :For reasons known only to God, don't trade Hamhuis at the deadlineStep 5: Finally realize Sbisa is awful, trade a top asset for a 2nd pairing Dman who isn't quite as good as the one you originally traded away Step 6: Don't re-sign Hamhuis
