[Trade] Canucks trade Jared McCann, 2nd-round pick, 4th-round pick to Panthers for Erik Gudbranson, 5th-round pick

Recommended Posts

McCann is going to be a beauty.

That's how it works folks.

You give quality to get quality.

I wish him the best.

He's destined to be a winger there - with some bloody good centers to play with.

I've always liked the Panthers.  They're our Eastern Conference brother team.

Luongo, Bure, Markstrom, Jovanovski, McCann, Gudbranson, Higgins....

These teams have sent some good players both ways.

when will you people learn to stop overrating every single player that signs here XD mccann was brutal all year long. there was nothing special about his game at all, other than a bunch of you hoping and praying that he'd be a key piece to this team's success and made every excuse you could for something he did well enough that every other player in the league did

He looked a little lost some nights, and definitely disappeared for a few weeks... but what can you expect from a teenager? Brutal? I certainly would not say that. He looked like the most skilled player in our system (which is kind of sad, really), but at least we've got a Tkachuk or a Dubois coming.

Yes, he's gone and we have Gudbranson now, but don't piss all over the kid for no reason. He showed some flashes of skill. Doesn't mean much yet (hence why he has doesn't have much value, and we had to add the 2nd). But provided he puts on some weight and finds some chemistry, he could very well be a good player for FLA. At least this trade makes more sense than the Shinkaruk trade, but there's absolutely no way Benning could have the same qualms about Jared that he had about Shink. Even though it's completely plausible that Shink ends up the better player, or that Jared never gets strong enough to play in the NHL, there is simply no way Benning can claim to know one way or other - it's WAY too early to make any claim about what kind of player McCann is. FLA has no idea what they're getting, and we have no idea what we just gave up.

The guy is a beast who can skate and rally the troops.  We need dmen like him to go up against the McDavids of the division.  McCann will be a heck of a player, but Gudbranson is worth it.

Everybody who throws the odd bodycheck is called a beast these days.

Arthur Staple works in a digital media world.

Gudbranson plays in a world where big guys still plaster small guys against the boards. Its not digital. Its a physical game. No doubt he has some limitations.  We still need a team that can physically compete.

Yea, tell the Kings that big D-men like Gudbranson don't win cups.

Size and nastiness will always be an asset. It's been that way since the beginning of the NHL.

People here calling Gudbranson a top 4. Guy didn't live up to potential thats all he his. Honestly I'm done with this $*** until Benning is fired.

He is a top four defenseman, what is the problem with that ? he plays top four minutes, plays a top four role, how is him not living up to " a potential " ? he is not an offensive dman. Is what it is.

Loving this trade! Good on JB to roll the dice! McCann though very talented was never gonna be our future #2 centre.... Gudbranson is basically a much younger, cheaper, much bigger & tougher + RH version of Hamhuis.... he still got upside and potential to get better!!!

So bye bye and thank you to Hammer.. and looks like we'll draft Dubois and hope he can help this team after Henrik retires.

not pissing on the guy, just being realistic. no one's really proving me wrong  that he wasn't over hyped, overrated, whatever term you want to use, other than "he's 19". it's people, as usual saying benning made a dumb move and he got fleeced, no he didn't. it was a fair trade. this team needs defense and the panthers need more unproven scorers

Gotta give something to get something. Sad to see McCann go but EG is exactly what we were looking for. All of a sudden our D ain't to shabby

Elder - Tanev

Hutton - Gudbranson

Sbisa - Tryamkin

Apparently McCann bulked up a bit to around 194. That's from the 180 he started at. He could burn us, if he turns into a scorer - even then that's a few years down the road.

Florida fans have a right to be mad. Gudbranson was playing 26+ mins a night in the playoffs, and they essentially traded him for prospects and picks. He's a young guy to begin with, so it's tricky to justify from Florida's end. The fact that Benning could pull this off, given that he's acquiring a young defenseman off of a successful team is all the more impressive.

One has to wonder..., Was Gudbranson even for sale ? Or did Benning just phone him ?

If our pile of lottery tickets turn out anything like they usually do, then we stole Gudbranson.

JB was already on the radio saying they want EG to play with Hutton.  But time will tell I suppose.

I watched a ton of Florida games this year. We got ourselves a great trade here. A solid defensive d man who is mean, a force in the corners and in the front of the net. Lock him in for 4-5 years after this a great price.

The media is praising this trade for Vancouver. McCann had no place here and we'd be lucky to get a D man with that pick.  The late 2nd and early 3rd rounds are full of defensemen.

With the right spending and perhaps another move and this team looks A LOT better.
