[Trade] Canucks trade Jared McCann, 2nd-round pick, 4th-round pick to Panthers for Erik Gudbranson, 5th-round pick

Recommended Posts

Folks on CDC complain we didn't get a 3rd overall pick.

Benning trades a late 1st, early 2nd, and 4th for a 3rd overall pick and get a monster sized RHD.

For the past few years I've seen tons of proposals to get Gudbranson. We get Gudbranson.

And folks are still freaking unhappy???

And we still have the #5 pick this year. Willie Mitchell's response to the trade was WTF??

So if we traded McCann, our second and 4th rounder to get Columbus' 3rd overall pick would you have been happy?

I'm sorry I don't get it. Even Benning said it was a steep price. But what did you expect? McCann for him straight up????

I never really understood why people were expecting McCann to become a 1st line center. He does have upside but he will have to take massive steps in his development to become that quality of player. Most likely he is going to end up as a 2nd line center who can put up 40-50 points. The Canucks already have a better version of that in Horvat.

I find this reason hard to justify. He's 19!

In in the centre role, Henrik is gone in a few years and Granlund is easily passable.

We also dont have very many good young wingers. Virtanen is passable and please tell me how Boeser is ahead of him on the depth chart when he's never played for the Canucks?

McCann doesn't pass PLD (if) or Horvat or Sutter, and doesn't serve the bottom 6 as well as Granlund or Sutter if that's the case.

This is the same thing as Shink, not good enough to pass Baer or Daniel in the next few years and not serviceable in the bottom 6, and his value would have continued dropping if he wasn't traded.

I agree about McCann. I like the kid too and think he'll be solid. Especially out east.  With Boeser, this years 5th and our centre depth he was expendable though. We just got a big, mean and solid d man who lets Hutton do his thing. This is a great deal.

Basically with this deal, Hutton just got Doughtyed up a notch.

Or is it looking more and more like Lucic?

I don't know how much that improves their position in the standings but definitely harder to play against.

wouldnt want to be a LW against canucks if so.

Lucic Virtanen Gudbranson and Tryamkin on that side... ouch.

I like McCann, but there's no evidence that's true.

Dubois basically had a good half season in a buttery soft league.  He won't be able to physically dominate in the NHL and he lacks high-end skill.  He'll be a 3rd liner.

Great trade. This butthurt attitude about the picks is hilarious. Wow.

Gudbrandson will slot in beautifully in this young burgeoning defense corps. The Canucks blueline is now that much harder to deal with. Benning is making good on his promise on adding tangible size and youth to the team.

Yeah, I don't get all the hate this trade is getting. This is exactly what we needed and the cost was not bad considering the prices paid on comparable players recently. I'm excited to see him play. Will be nice to have a big and tough defense corps for once.

People here seriously overrated McCann. You only have to go into the proposals section and people weren't willing to trade him for young proven NHLers because they believed he would be a FLC. It was insane.

Exactly. Im sure Benning remembers how that 1 dimensional plug Ferkland humiliated the Canuck D.

From a fans point of view I find it embarrassing how this team gets pushed around.  Top players get speed bagged, rookies get run at, goalies get shoved, the team is mocked by the media.

Benning is trying to change the culture of this team. Its not like this guy is Engelland - hes a young guy that still has upside, can play big minutes and the biggest thing in my mind he will bring respectability to the team.

Guys like Jordan Nolan, Ferkle, and other "pests" will think twice before engaging in stupidities.

Agreed. Benning will add a couple more impact pieces before the start of next season, and the team will be a handful come puck drop in the fall.

He's bigger and stronger than McCann was in junior and put up more points on a worse team.

Lacks high end skill? Not from what I've seen.

McCann was probably a 2nd liner at best. Most likely a third liner.

Jared seemed like a loyal kid so it's tough to see him get traded.  He will develop well in the Eastern Conference.

Having Edler, Gudbranson, Sbsia AND Tryamkin will be a treat to watch.  Happy to see EDM and CGY work their way through that one.

Yeah we will trust your opinion over what professional scouts have been saying. Kid is 6'3, he can dominate any league physically.

here it goes im going to type this with my best capbility to control my emotions, so bare with me.

First, and foremost this trade stinks. Anyway you put it this is a dumb trade, go look at the comments fans made on his signing. Second this is the results of Benning and Linden being the biggest braindead clowns to run this team in a long run. Don't we have that waste Sbisa for how many years? Hey Benning who is going to score goals on defence? And hey Benning how much stock do you put in a guy like Gaunce over McCann, I get if the Canucks' trade Gaunce for this type of deal, but you trade a sexy skilled forward for a freaking another Sbisa 2.0, who again has no OFFENSIVE CAPILITIES. something we need, makes you wonder what direction these morons running the show are going?

You look at the bloody leafs they are doing things the right way, this is freaking why you don't retool, you are rushing freaking trades and you hurting and risking your team. What was the bloody hurry for making this deal? Gubarson signed a 1 year, seriously what put ants in Benning's freaking pants to make this trade? You are suppose to be rebuilding you yet management, is trying to give the beautiful Sedins' another go at the cup by mortgaging the future.

This is a horrible trade, you gave away a prospect skilled forward with untapped potiental similar to Shinkurak. I love it guys, I love how you guys just can't call Benning wrong. Jim BENNING is running this team deeper and deeper into a hole. Three years of this crap will put us in a 8 year rebuild before we see real competition in this city, seriously Henrik and Daneil tell the teeam you want to be traded if they are building a team for you two to win a cup then honestly I don't know what to say. Because you two have had your chance and guess what you weren't successful so how does Gubarson make this team better now or in the future? He doesn't the key thing here is we lost a skilled 1st rounder for another one of  Bennings slow dummy defencemen who can play the boards in the East but hey did you forget this is the Western conference.
