Benning trades Forsling for Clendenning Benning trades Shink for Granlund Benning trades 2nd for Vey Benning trades now McCann for Gubarson see what is in common here, these are quick retool trades that are trying to stop the common sense (rebuild) which should be happening, instead Benning is gambling with the future to give veterans another go at the cup. Fire freaking Benning. Forsling, Shinkaruk, 2nd (McKeowan) and McCann = 77 NHL games played Clendening, Granlund, Vey and Gudbranson = 595 NHL games played (and all 4 are under 25) Get back to me in 3 years, if you are still allowed to troll these forums, you clown. Gudbranson had 43% oZone starts last season. He hardly got a sniff on the PP. He has a wicked shot. He didn't join the rush in FLA. He's 24, and by all accounts still improving offensively. He'll never be Erik Karlsson on offense, but he's not asked to play that role anyway. The Canucks' D was as bad as their O last season. You can't fill every hole with one player, but Gudbranson certainly will help on one side of the ice.

So, what you're saying is: the Canucks are missing out on selecting a bunch of guys who may never make the NHL, or a few who might have a decent career as a bottom-6 forward or 7th d-man, and the slim possibility that one guy might actually be a diamond in the rough...? From my perspective, the Canucks come out ahead. regards, G.

I hope Martin is in JB's crosshair on July 1st and maybe buyout Dorsett. Yeah, let's waste cap space for even longer than necessary. Dorsett can fill a good role and is still moveable. VegasCanuck
See, we can let McCann go, because we are going to sign Stamkos on July 1st, making McCann expendable! See what I did there? It's called positive, optimistic spin!
Odd.
So has it been confirmed which year that 2nd round is? 2016, or 2017? As well, were also going to be getting a 2nd round pick from CBJ within the next 5 days.

Bob Long
I'm pretty interested to see what Doug Lidster does here - he did a great job with Hutton this year, and then imo worked a minor miracle getting Tryamkin so much ice time in such a short time. If Lidster can get Gud working on more shooting, this might be something really special. Even if he doesn't become and offensive force this is still a really good move. And yet, we gained something that's a highly valued commodity in the NHL. A top 4 dman who's coming into the prime of his career. Funny how that works...you give something of value up, you get something of value back.....

I'm going to go back to thinking about Baertschi/Gudbranson.

They don't trade him if they didn't have Ekblad. Just like Nashville wouldn't trade Jones if they didn't have Weber. Hopefully we just took advantage of a rare opportunity. That is how CAR and TOR acquired their picks But we didn't, so it doesn't matter

It's guys like him that make teams like us suck. And again, McCann is only 19... He could easily develop in the AHL a couple years until the Sedins round out their career. Heck, an injury to Baer and we're all of a sudden weak on wingers. On an unrelated note to this response, people need to stop mentioning Pedan and Tryamkin as the latest instalments to the big, bad Canucks. They may not even pan out. Disagree completely on Granlund, and your assessment should at least wait until he's had an offseason to practice and restart fresh with the team. I didn't even mention the Sedins and McCann was likely 4th at center ahead of only Granlund who he will likely never have a better two way game than. His offense will probably be better though which is exactly why he wouldn't be satisfied playing in the bottom 6 down the line. Remaining in the A and down the depth chart for a long period of time is great for your confidence and trade value, right? JB did McCann a service with this trade.
