he is a top 5 not a top 4, come on now the hype train on this guy is real. lol

So, let me guess. According to you, the sky is falling?

He's a solid D on a team that was VERY deep on defense.

See, we can let McCann go, because we are going to sign Stamkos on July 1st, making McCann expendable!

See what I did there? It's called positive, optimistic spin! :)

No, between Sutter and McCann, I take Sutter any day of any NHL year.

You can never have too much depth.

It's not depth when they're full time roster spots, have AHL out clauses, or are waiver eligible. That's just your team. And Sbisa can't really be a 3.6 million dollar extra.

Love the trade.

Whether you like it or not, this trade makes us harder to play against next year.

Rebuild blah blah blah, hockey is entertainment and I want to be entertained damnit.

Great internal competition coming up this season. Only eight spots.

EDLER (NTC)

TANEV

GUDBRANSON

HUTTON

SBISA

TRYAMKIN

BIEGA

PEDAN (RFA)

BLAIN (RFA)

SUBBAN

BRISEBOIS

STECHER

SAUTNER

McENENY

CEDERHOLM

NEIL

OLSON

HAMHUIS (UFA)

BARTKOWSKI (UFA)

WEBER (UFA)

FEDUN (UFA)

If Benning can move Sbisa to Edmonton (hey why not :P) to recover the 2nd, and we resign Hamhuis our D could be:

Edler - Tanev

Hamhuis - Gud

Hutton - Tryamkin

With Pedan and Larsen as our 7/8.

thanks for your comment here is some reality.

Benning trades Forsling for Clendenning

Benning trades Shink for Granlund

Benning trades 2nd for Vey

Benning trades now McCann for Gubarson

see what is in common here, these are quick retool trades that are trying to stop the common sense (rebuild) which should be happening, instead Benning is gambling with the future to give veterans another go at the cup. Fire freaking Benning.

I was going to suggest that, outside of perhaps the Vey deal (which is still TBD), the Canucks won all of these trades...

Disagree completely on Granlund, and your assessment should at least wait until he's had an offseason to practice and restart fresh with the team.

I didn't even mention the Sedins and McCann was likely 4th at center ahead of only Granlund who he will likely never have a better two way game than. His offense will probably be better though which is exactly why he wouldn't be satisfied playing in the bottom 6 down the line. Remaining in the A and down the depth chart for a long period of time is great for your confidence and trade value, right?

JB did McCann a service with this trade.

Granlund can't score and is buttery soft.  If he's in the lineup on opening day, we're in big trouble.

I don't see any evidence suggesting that he is anything more than a bottom pairing d. Unless I completely missed your post.

I didn't realize bottom pairing D play 26 minutes a night in big crucial playoff games against the other teams best players...

I was just thinking today that maybe this off-season we phone up Anaheim and see if we could package McCann as part of a bigger deal for Vatanen, Theodore, or something to help increase our points from the blue line.

Then, we go out and get Gudbranson and his 10 pts.

Lol Anaheim has no need for McCann.

Yeah, but we still get Stamkos, right???

Don't spoil the dream here, overly optimistic rantings are all we've got until October.... :)

Going to be hard to break a top 7 of

Edler-Tanev

Hutton-Gudbranson

Tyramkin-Sbisa

Biega

Sucks that Larsen (Who you forgot) probably doesn't crack that lineup and goes back to KHL (Or maybe not even sign a contract since he sees that depth)

He just may be all that, but it was not going to be in Vancouver. For whatever reason, they made up their minds that McCann had more value as a trade chip than a roster player. You don't normally get a shot at a 6'5" 220 pound third overall draft pick who plays a tough, Pacific Division-type game. So he doesn't put up big offensive numbers. So what? He's a right hand shot who played 26 minutes a game in the 2016 playoffs. It would have been nice to have kept the second round pick, but there's a lot of time between now and the draft. Why do I get the feeling that Benning may not be done trading?

EG hasn't put up more than 10 points in season. That's very concerning. Love his size though.

McCann reminded me of Lack in his interviews; a natural jittery state that didn't exactly scream confidence. The kid is star struck and has been from the get go. How he turns out depends on him getting that taken care of. In the meantime, here's to a Hamhuis replacement while respecting the youth movement.

Yes Millenials; 24 years old is much younger than 33 years old. Youth has been served.
