(Discussion) Matt Duchene

Recommended Posts

Was listening to team 1040 all day and they brought up that the reason we couldn't swing a trade for Tyson Barrie is because Colorado didn't know if they were going to be trading Duchene. That they were still thinking.

So if Duchene becomes available what would it take from a Canucks standpoint to get him? He's only 25, scored 70pts just 2 years ago and could take over the #1 job from the Sedin's when they move on. This would get us back in contention  a lot sooner. Do we have the assets to obtain him?

Players they may be interested in that we could give up.

Chris Tanev - Probably our most reliable defenseman.

Alex Edler - If he waives his NYC.

Brandon Sutter - MacKinnon takes on the #1 and Sutter can slot in at #2

Sven Baertschi - If they're looking for a young winger

I wouldn't offer our 5th overall straight up but with other moving pieces I wouldn't be against moving down to 10th and grabbing Duchene if at all possible.

Edit:

Would this work

Vancouver: D Chris Tanev, VAN 1st (5th overall)

Colorado: C Matt Duchene, COL 1st (10th overall)

Colorado's biggest weakness is their defense. Tanev gives them an extremely reliable defenseman who upgrades their defense greatly and they move up in the draft.

We get a #1 C to take over for the Sedin's and now we can pick a defenseman with our #10 pick.

I don't like the idea of moving the 5th but you gotta give  to get.

So? What do you think? Would Duchene be a fit here? Could we even get him?

They would want a Young RFA with term still left and probly a first round

So a package of

Hutton, Granlund and a 1st 2017. for Duchene

would be a trade that Colorado would want.

Tanev and our 1st, and I'm betting a prospect as well for Duchene.. And even if we served that up, I'm betting Edmonton ups the anti and wins that trade out from under us.  Free agency is probably our best bet now, as we don't have much to play with for assets.

Why would Edmonton want yet another center? Makes no sense for them. They need defense

What does Edmonton have to up the anti on Tanev?

Strong rookie pool, some skilled wingers, and some b-grade d that they want to unload.  I could be out to lunch using Edmonton as the example, but the point I was trying to make is we are the last team that has enough assets to pull off a trade for Duchene.

I think you're undervalueing Tanev as an asset. He is a very good piece on any team and more than what other teams would be happy with giving up.

Could be, but first line star players cost, and Tanev doesn't score a ton of goals yet.

Colorado would gladly give up Duchene for Tanev.  Tanev is now a young top pairing D man on an excellent contract.  I really don't see JB giving him up for Duchene.

The only thing the Canucks need to do now is draft a projected #1 center, sign L.Eriksson to complete the first line and sign a left winger to play with Sutter, Lucic is the perfect fit as his presence alone will make everyone on the roster 1" taller and 10 lbs heavier. With that said the second line will need a play-maker on the right side. A player like T.Teravainen might be attainable for Hansen, Pedan and a 1st-2017 we take on Bickell's 4.5mil. Chicago is in serious trouble with the cap.

I am sure that if Colorado trades a super star like Matt Duchene it is because they want to re-sign Tyson Barrie.

D...

Beauchemin

Johnson

Barrie

Stuart

Holden

Gelinas

Zadorov

Gormley

I don't think they will trade duchene for a D-Man. They would look for more of a younger prospect and 1st and not give up theirs.
