So Dreger speculating more is on the way for Trader Jim. If there is which direction does everybody see JB going with these trades? Is it going to be adding players for picks and prospects? Or is it trading some of our vets to gain picks and prospects. I'm hoping for the latter of the two but when it comes to JB he likes to surprise!

I think it's good use of a 2nd and am not worried.  They'll keep the 5th OA.

I wouldn't be surprised if all they do is sign a UFA forward like Erikson or Okposo.

A healthy team with these additions would be a huge improvement over last year's injury riddled corpse.

Sedin Sedin Erikson/Okposo

Baertschi Sutter Hansen

Etem Horvat Rodin

Gaunce Granlund Dorset

Edler Tanev

Hutton Gudbranson

Tryamkin Larsen

Miller Markstrom

We should try to dump some cap if possible in Miller, Burrows and Higgins.

Nobody wants Higgins!! They tried all last summer to move him, to no avail.

We still need Miller. Burr though, guys a total wild card, willing to waive, heart and soul guy, bleeds blue and green, could have another great season in him... or could be bought out or traded..wild card for sure, I'd hate to see him go though.

I'm thinking JB might surprise us again by making player trades , like our 5th OA and Baerch for Taylor Hall, or something insane like that.

Maybe with the emergence of Hutton, Tram and Pedan, Gudbranson trade, Spisa could be moved (his cap hit isn't as bad as a lot of you make it out to be). But our D is notoriously cursed in the LTR department....

Just spit balling... Go JB go!

Darren Dreger was on Edmonton’s TSN 1260 on Thursday morning.

On how the Canucks basically gave up a lot of future in Wednesday’s Erik Gudbranson trade:

“Yeah, and it wasn’t an easy deal for Jim Benning and the Vancouver Canucks to make.

“Jared McCann, if you want to start there, from an NHL perspective is going to be a good NHL player. And he’s a young guy, so nothing there’s nothing but potential in Jared McCann and his game. I think you can build a case that maybe he was rushed a little bit this year, and it would have been better for him not to be playing in the NHL, but that didn’t hurt his stock by any stretch.

“He’s going to be good. But to get quality players, you’ve got to be willing to give up quality assets – and that’s what Benning has done in acquiring Gudbranson. This guy is a Top-4 NHL defenseman. He’s got enormous size. He’s, again, age-like in terms of Ben Hutton, so the development of that blueline is going to happen simultaneously, which was important.

“And it takes some of the heat off the Vancouver Canucks as well. Jim Benning is far from done in terms of shopping. Even though it looks like the Canucks are more likely to embrace a rebuild than they are anything else, I think Benning is fully going after the renovation. ‘Let’s tweak here or there. Let’s add pieces so that this team can contend for a playoff spot as early as next season.’

“It’s not going to be easy to do, but at least now he’s got certainty in Gudbranson coming to the Vancouver Canucks, as opposed to the ongoing negotiations with Dan Hamhuis, if you will. There’s whispers and rumors about maybe Kris Russell going into the free agent pool, leaving the Dallas Stars, and Vancouver having interest there.

“Now at least he has a sure piece that he paid a premium price for, but he’s got that piece.”

I predict Benning is going to shop for another 1st round pick somehow and a trade involving one of the defensemen. In July, Benning will most likely sign Ericsson or Okposo, or Lucic, even though ownership will give green light to try to sign Stamkos. With the  Gudbranson acquisition, that probably means Hamhuis won't be re-signed unless we trade a defenceman to make room.   Other than that, let's see what other surprises Benning has up his sleeve.

in three years if we don't win a cup we will be bad for many years, this is not how to do stuff Aquaman is calling the shots big time. I just listened to Bob Mackenzies interview, and he nailed it.

A) the game is changing

b. Canucks' should be stock piling draft picks and prospects

c) in 3 years things will be interesting

Aquaman you will gain short term gain, but mark my words in three years we will be missing lots of pieces from prospect gaps. Benning will probably end up trading away the first for another tough guy who cannot score.

benning will never trade the veterans, he is going to shop for a veteran with our 1st rounder, say bye to bye. Aquaman probably whining about playoff revenue.

im freaking rattled this teams direction is pretty much gambling for the Sedins' chance at a cup. Not the freaking way to build a team. ugh!

Before the draft

Higgins buy out

Hansen to Mtl for Mitchell and Mtl 2nd (39 OA)

Burrows caphit 4,5/salary3.0 to cash strapped team?

Summer

Edler for Barrie......Colorado has cap issues and will have problems signing him.......straight across trade......or we are not interested!

Sign Ladd for 6.5 mill for 3 yrs.......overpay for no NTC...........trade at 2019 Deadline

Sign Okposo  6.5 mill for 3 yrs.......overpay for no NTC...........trade at 2019 Deadline

Trade Miller at the 2017 Deadline

- Sorry Hansen isn't getting a 1st

- Burrows will be taken by someone.......might have to take some of his salary to get a decent pick, not his cap, can we do that?

- Edler trade we get younger

- Ladd and Okposo give us a tougher and more Offensive.....trade aka Toronto after Sedin's Contracts end for picks

- Miller trade clears Cap and brings a pick

Listen you can't say this would not happen, when both Toronto and Pittsburgh made just as many moves.

dude Benning is not doing anything like that, has he once moved a veteran for a younger player? The guy is throwing away draft picks like candy, expect more of that and Edler and Hansen should be moved but will not. Canucks' are going to try everything (eg even mortgage the future to win a cup with the Sedins', just watch) That's the meeting ownership probably had.

Yeah, because Colorado won't get a more enticing offer from anyone else...

Desi............relax

At the very least Benning will buy a couple of UFA's as he has the Money and Aquaman will want the gate.....

They also have too many.........something will happen there as well

And we will have too many Dmen to protect at the expansion draft....If they don't trade Edler.......who do they protect?

I am not even pro Benning .....it is just the numbers saying this!  If Benning can count!

No Crystal ball here....but if they want to stay somewhat status quo here.......how many teams offer up one of their top Dmen on a regular basis.........usually the offer crap....just saying.......Teams don't usually do other teams favors!
