[Draft Day] Gaining Picks

Recommended Posts

I think it's obvious that Benning should and will aquire more picks prior to draft day, so here's a few trades to get more picks.

To NJD: Sbisa, Higgins (50% retained)

To VAN: 72nd overall, 104th overall

Many people believe Sbisas value is a 2nd or early 3rd, when you take the contract into consideration I would say it's closer to the 3rd. Higgins has little value but we retain salary and pair him with Sbisa and that brings them both up to a 3rd and a 4th. Meanwhile, the Devils get a youngish, bottom pairing d-man to improve their weak defence, and a veteren 3rd liner.

To NSH: Hansen, Pedan

To Van : 17th Overall

This one I'm unsure about. I don't know what Hansens exact value is, but I would say a late first so someone like Pedan would have to be included. That being said, I find it hard to deal Pedan with Sbisa gone. I would bet one or the other will be dealt, but both would be tough to swallow depth wise.

For the Preds, Hansen would look real nice on that team and that's all that needs to be said.

To CAR: 17th

To VAN: 21st, 40th

Finally we have just a simple trade down to grab a new second.

We now have: 5th, 21st, 40th, 63rd, 72nd, 104th, 123rd, 153rd, 183rd, 196th

Good? Bad? Almost there? What do you think?

You are overrating our players. You will never get those draft picks for the player you mentioned. The best you can do is:

7th round - Sbisa (That's pushing it)

4th round - Hansen+Pedan

Carolina will never give you that just move 4 spots up

Hansen just scored 20 goals bud and Pedan cost us a third - what planet are you from

sbisa is a 4/5 d man - even back up goalies get a 3rd and a 7th in carolina ;)

Tell me a player traded for a 7th round pick that played in the NHL consistently, and is in his prime.

I don't think Higgins has value at this point, especially since you can always get a player like him in free agency. That said, Sbisa could probably get that value.

Teams usually give up first rounders for players they think they can build around (Schneider, Cammalleri, Kessel), not complimentary players (unless at the trade deadline), so I think you are off on the Hansen trade.

Trading down does happen, so depending on how desperate a team was they might do that deal, though a 3rd rounder or late second might be going along with the first.

I don't know but I'm pretty sure if the Canucks waive him now, no one will take him.

Edmonton would fall over their feet trying to grab him. He isn't just an extra defenseman. He is a serviceable #5, who if complimented well on a good team, can be a #4. Like in St. Louis, they have a lot of cap tied up in their top 3, and playing with Pietriangelo/Shattenkirk, Sbisa can play on the second pair. Same with Chicago. All the rebuilding teams won't pass up a free defenseman...

Hansen can fetch a late first imo. He broke out this year and he can play anywhere in the lineup. He is a good penalty killer and energy player if need be too. Also, for a contender in need of a cap friendly veteran with good stats a late first isn't a large price, Hansen would help more than an 18 year old playing in Junior for 2 years.

I think we could get the 32nd for Sbisa with Gudbranson in the fold now. I don't think Hansen gets us a mid 1st but other than that it's not half bad.

Yes, but I feel like they would wait until the trade deadline to part with a first, especially for someone like Hansen who hasn't consistently put up points.

How's that? Sbisa is a very serviceable 6-7 defenseman who can skate above average, and hits with efficiency.

The fact that you would think that Benning would waive Sbisa is ridiculous.

Hansen cannot fetch a first. He can prob fetch a 2nd at best.

Not bad, but nobody is giving up a 1st in a stacked draft for Hansen. He would get us a 2nd rounder.

Sbisa would maybe get a late 2nd, early 3rd based on his 1st round pedigree alone.

I am not into trading Hansen though, he is cheap and does everything you need to win hockey games, not too mention now we know he can play with the Sedins. He also is a great guy in the locker room according to some writers, and can actually play in a physical playoff series.

OP must be older than 12, good effort.

Lol do you even follow hockey? Like... At all?

A 4th round for Hansen, a 20 goal, work horse, play on any line, PK specialist,  and Pedan, a young monster Dman with tons of untapped potential.

And a 7th for a physical 5th Dman who is just entering his prime and named to the Europe world's team... If we're lucky.

You're a funny guy.

lol. And you sir are undervaluing our players. Quit sipping that pessimistic kool aid. Hansen and Pedan for a late 1st rounder sounds about right. Hansen has an amazing cap friendly deal at 2.5 million and Pedan is a young big Russian defensemen. Sbisa for a 7th? Come on man. He's worth atleast a 4th
