I think Bart will get the Vey treatment as opposed to the Kassian. He'll have a longer leash and won't be punished as hard for mistakes. If Vey is given PP time, I'm sure Bart will receive some as well. And also, I'm sure he'll start out on the 3rd line at worst. He's just not the type of player to grind it out on the fourth line and work his way to the top. With the waiver situation, like Vey last year, there's not much else to do. And besides, we know Bart's problem has been with the mental side of the game and confidence. I don't think benching him will help.

Agreed. Kassians issue is that he can play the way he was playing and be an nhl regular on the 3rd or 4th line but he has such a high ceiling and needs to be pushed. vey or sven can be very effective in the bottom six and need different treatment to succeed.

No way will Sven, Stanton, Vey, Clendening, Corrado, or the like be waived. If need be they will be traded first, because "one does not simply" give away assets that have value.

I believe Shinkaruk and Gaunce will be back in Utica for the exact reasons you mentioned. Plus another year in Utica will help their development.

As will Jensen (if he still is able). As per the article from FlamesNation, Baertschi could be sent down to the minors while Monahan could not, so that's what happened. Same happened for Bo this year -- he could not go to Utica and the same will it be for the other young guys (like it has been for Corrado) unless they clearly beat out vets or those who require waivers and force management to open a roster spot.

WD likes him...on 1040 they interviewed him and he said that he has watched Sven in the WHL and AHL level and likes the skill he brings.

WD loves comfort and likes players that will give him exactly what he thinks he will get. Vey, Dorsett, and Higgins are all predictable players so he loves them cause he knows exactly what he has....Kassian well he is like a grenade...don't know when he will ignite or not.

Sven well is like a grenade but as you aluded to, he will be given a longer leash as WD and JB already expressed mutual feelings about Sven.

Right, because Baertschi only plays in one zone out of the three? Are you Brian Burke?

So why did they give up on a guy that talented then ? Cause of his poor d zone play and compete level. Benning a offer was the best one out out there so there are issues that need ironing out. I don't see where your going with this argument?

If I remember correctly, Baertschi had good defensive awareness. But still, that's not the soul reason why they gave up on him.

Sven is playing on the top line with O'Reilly and Grenier and got his assist playing on the top unit PP. Green is definitely putting him in a position to succeed.

Had himself (what sounded like -- listening to the radio stream) a good period. He was on a line, as RW, with Shinkaruk and Friesen and they had some chances. His good effort led to the opening goal (Pedan) and he picked up a second-assist on the play.

Our prospects are going to get the chance to develop much more quickly in that environment with Travis as the coach.

THIS is the benefit of owning our own AHL team. We should have done it 5 years ago.

there is a chance that none of our young guys can crack the line up next year...so the 14 regular forwards will still be here next year..

i don't think they'll rush virtanen, mccann, shinkaruk, jensen or baerschi...hopefully a couple of them can stick....

I wouldn't mind Virtanen/McCann in juniors next year. Baertschi and Jensen I hope they make it.

Would be better for Shinkaruk/Gaunce's devleopment to stick in the AHL.

SVEN BAERTSCHI - COMPARABLE. MASON RAYMOND

Except that Raymond doesn't know how to pass... Just skate at top speed until he falls down

Sven appears to be a deft passer and quality shooter with very high IQ. And Mason Raymond speed to burn.

Only comparable might be their size.

jensen hasn't exactly burned up the ahl....baerschi has lost his confidence, so it may take awhile to get it back..i think they'll take their time with him...benning said that both virtanen and mccann will be given every opportunity to make this team...but they won't rush them...i think as much as the team loves richardson, i think bo, can move up to 3rd line.....i'ld hate to see higgins go...he is so important to this team...matthias is playing so good right now like kassian...can they keep it up? they will move a goalie...defense needs a make over....can bieksa come back and play like the juice?...are we tough enough...can pedan make the big club next year?

The problem that I see here with Baerschi, or at least to my understanding, is that because he is waiver eligible, we don't have the option to leave him in the AHL. If we waive him, I'd say it's a pretty good bet that he gets picked up, so it comes down to him making the roster, sitting in the press box or getting traded.

Not a chance we stick with the same 14 forwards we have now into next year.

Moves like Vey and Baertschi are allowing us to make up ground they we have lost with MG's drafting from 08-12. Benning is accelerating the plan a touch quicker with these acquisitions so that they make the roster faster, but it is also noted that they have to earn their keep before they get a spot, but considering the FA market lacks what Benning would want to get and the trade market just isn't there for a young top six forward,

Benning stated he wants to inject youth into the lineup each year going forward...you can bet at least another young player will make our lineup.
