Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

I think the canucks shouldn't re-sign Matthais but should trade him at the deadline put Horvat on the 3rd and Gaunce as 4th line C/LW

Richardson -Horvat- Kassian

Dorsett-Gaunce-Vey

anyone know if Gaunce is good in the draw?

I doubt he's taken enough faceoffs in Utica this season to draw a conclusion. The lineups I've seen had him listed as a LW.

No Kassian?

Trade Kassian back to Buffalo so he can play with Hodgson. ;) Get the Sabres' 2nd round picks in '15 & '16 to draft quality defensemen.

Looking at how well BoHo is playing on the 4th line, I can't see Gaunce not having success on the 4th line as well. He has the size and his positioning is very solid

Biggest difference is Bo has faster and softer hands than Gaunce, but that's why Gauncer is in the A this year and Bo's up with the big club. Once Gaunce improves his hands in tight spaces a bit he will be a very similar to Horvat of this year next year.

Starting with the puck is huge.

After the Hansen hattie someone said something like " all Horvat did was win the faceoff" ( on 2 of those goals, tipped the other over to Hansen).

NO faceoff win ... no goals... simple as that.

The game before that in Edmonton there must have been 5 or 6 goals scored directly off faceoff wins...the kind Horvat can do...nice and clean and in the wheelhouse.

Anyway we are set for centers, one of those guys will pan out to be a decent first liner.

It seems like Benning is aware of our LW depth issues. He has converted Matthias to LW and it looks like Gaunce is getting the same trearment. I thought that Gaunce could cover for Horvat if he were to be sent to the WJ's. Now it looks like Bo could stay with the big club instead of being loaned. We'll find out in a few days.

Desjardins converted him.

Horvat will replace Richardson nicely as the 3rd line center next season (15 minutes a game easily), and Gaunce should be ready to replace Matthias for 4th line center duties (9-10 minutes). Matthias and Richardson have been alright so far this season but can be easily replaced, and should be from within the organization. Plus, we'll save around 1.5M. Hopefully Jensen and Shinkaruk will be ready for full-time minutes by then, I'd love to see us try this:

Sedin - Sedin - Vbrata

Jensen - Bonino - Burrows

Higgins - Horvat - Vey

Shinkaruk - Gaunce - Hansen

Matthias is playing left wing, not centre, and you are talking about replacing him and Richardson - except that that line; Richardson, Matthias and Vey has just as many goals (18) as the supposed second line - with NO PP time - maybe keep them and get rid of Burrows and his cap-eating salary while someone still might want him.

Gaunce seems to be picking his game up in the AHL, the points aren't showing up in bunches, but he's getting shots and finding his game. I think next year he will be the first call up, or make the team.

picking up his game? He's been stellar all season, despite his lower point totals. I've watched several games this year and he's been one of, if not the best fwd, in most of them.

Yeah Gaunce has been an absolute beaut in Utica. It's interesting to see his game and how it differs from Jensen's since both are big guys.

Gaunce has surprising speed at times (despite worries that he's slow), but Jensen can REALLY move. It just seems like Gaunce just chooses not to move as much, which works well for him. He's got a hell of a stick and hockey IQ so he doesn't have to shift much to stay in position and anticipate the play. Jensen is definitely flashier but I think Gaunce is massively underrated because of how quiet and steady he is. And he win board battles like a sonofabitch. He's gonna be a real solid piece of the Nucks soon.

I think Gaunce in the long run will be the best we have. That is why I hate to see people offer him in trades. We haven't begun to see the limit of what this guy is capable of.

Utica have him playing the body (more than Jensen does that's for sure) and his physical, thoughtful approach is what we need in Vancouver.

I reckon by the end of the season he will be the guy who will show up best for the Canucks amongst the current batch in Utica and that imo includes Bo.

I have been a believer in this guy for a while. He has the attitude body, skills, smarts, leadership etc, to at least be a consistent NHLer in this league. I think Gaunce is going to be the kind of guy that takes a while to get there, but when he does, he should make an impact. I expect 2-3 years before he makes the jump. (including this one so really 1-2)
