Another goal for Gaunce..

This guy amazes me time and time again. He's one of the most rounded out prospects we have in the system.

I really hope he doesn't get traded. of all our prospects I see him as being the most likely to be packaged up with a roster player for an upgrade on the 2nd line. I'd really like to see how him stay a Canucks prospect and watch him develop. I can see him being a fantastic 3rd line winger in the future. Smart, big and has shown vast improvements in his speed which was his biggest knock.

I'll be the first to admit I was wrong if he makes it. I thought he was way too slow. Looking like a great player to be.

Sedins when they were drafted, I believe, the biggest knock on them was their foot speed and acceleration. they're still not the fastest players on the ice, but they're smart out there. Gaunce is still young. i hope that he can develop quicker foot speed. but even if he doesn't, he's got solid hockey IQ, and he's not a small player (probably will be harder to knock off the puck). and it seems like he's got some room to grow in terms of his offensive game.

Wondering why he hasn't been called up yet to the big club. Wonder if he'll get a chance this year.

Gaunce is a very smart player, always seeing a move or two ahead. This was apparent in his first Canuck training camp. He quick, short, clever passes coming out of his own end. Very strong on the forecheck once he got there, but in his first camp he took a while to get there. He is much quicker now, and much stronger - kind of like Horvat that way. He has a strong defensive game already, and conscientiously improving.

By comparison, Jensen, has retreated this year. Gaunce is fifth in Utica scoring and a very solid +6 as a rookie. Jensen, by comparison, is a team worst -11 - the next worst is Shinkaruk - tied at -5. Now, Shinkaruk has an excuse - it's his first year in the AHL, he still has some filling out to do, missed most of last year due to his injuries being repaired.

Not sure Jensen has an excuse at this point. He should be competing for an NHL job - unfortunately he still doesn't seem to be learning how to take care of his defensive play.

Gaunce, on the other hand, as others have commented, should probably get a look at that fourth line on the Canucks next year. Problem is, he might have to fight his way past Kenins!!

Jensen is what he is. He will look like a 50-goal scorer one week and then disappear for long stretches. He never cracked 30 goals in juniors while Horvat and Gaunce have.

Agree with this analysis. Gaunce is quietly having a good year. He played most of the year in the bottom 6 and I assume he has had more than his share of shutdown time.

I always liked Gaunce. The biggest criticisms in the past were:

1. Not quick enough acceleration (although pretty good top speed)

2. Not using his size and strength enough.

3. Not enough intensity (which could really be the same as point 2).

Anyone know if he has made progress in these areas. I assume he has.

Damn.. Our most overlooked prospect. Guance, the turtle, is outshining Jensen and Shinkaruk. Grats.

You guys calling him slow, have you ever seen him play, or are you just repeating what others say because you assume it must be true? Maybe check back to his draft year and how he fared in the skating tests.

Not only that, they seem to think he's a year older than he really is. I wonder whose vital stats those are, because they're not Brendan Gaunces!

Oh gosh, he's so overlooked that I overlooked that

He should have about 10 goals based on his 99 shots which would put him around .5 PPG Thats a really good number for a first year pro, and he's seems to actually be developing as the season goes along. More consistant every game.

With everyone in Utica seeing how well Ronnie is doing I'm sure they will all be trying to match his intensity to try and get the call up.

Hope Gaunce gets a look, but at the same time Utica needs him and maybe it would be better to get Shink up and see where he's actually at? Could hurt him though, but I doubt it.

Assuming of course we move a couple bodies at the deadline

Let's face it the Canucks got Brandon McMillan as a stopgap until Bonino and Richardson are healthy. After that he is off to Utica. He's a left winger. Gaunce, Shinkaruk, and Archibald are left wingers. Does anyone think this could possibly be a set-up move to trade either Gaunce or Shinkaruk.

I know that Gaunce has also played center in Utica but it seems like they like him on the left wing more. He's been getting better playing time with better line mates lately as well. Not to mention his name was rumoured to be in the Evander Kane offer.
