alfstonker
Sorry dude, you misunderstood me. Turtle as in the turtle and hare story. Jensen and Shinkaruk has always been fan favorites as our future top 6. Guance, most people put off as a 3rd C or worst. And now he is slowly developing into a better prospect than Jensen and Shinkaruk - -that is the reference Im trying to make. Nicely put and I agree, although Shink is still trying to catch up on his lost season imo.
alfstonker
Yeah I have noticed this weakness since I saw him in pre season games. If hes going to be anything more then a 3rd or 4th line NHLer hes going to have to work on it a lot. If he does we have a gem. Except Gaunce is playing right side is he not? Odd.
Utica has him listed as LW That wouldn't be a bad thing. If we can get Gaunce to convert to a winger, we won't have as much of a log jam up at center. Assuming we don't draft any stud center: Shinkaruk/McCann/Virtanen Gaunce/Horvat/Kassian... this is just an example. And if I remember correctly, after Gaunce was traded from Belleville to Erie, he played wing instead of center for majority of the year.
avelanch
So overlooked that the AHL website doesn't even know which way he shoots http://theahl.com/stats/player.php?id=5645 I mean, even by chance it's 50/50 Not only that, they seem to think he's a year older than he really is. I wonder whose vital stats those are, because they're not Brendan Gaunces! Utica's own website also says 1993 and shoots right. i wonder if they are both getting their data from the same source, or whether one grabs from the other? anyways i tweeted both of them of the error, it should be resolved... eventually. avelanch
Don't think so. I think he has to remain on the nucks roster for the remainder of the season. Some sort of waiver rule. he can't be traded this year, but he can be sent down. he just needs to clear waivers to do so, which would be unlikely. avelanch
If we send him down the Coyotes get first dibs on him and can re-claim him and send him down to the AHL without having to pass through waivers again. This rule is probably the only reason we still have Markstrom. they can only send him straight down after claiming if no other team in the NHL puts in a claim when they grab him back. if anyone else puts in a claim at the same time as the coyotes, then he'd have to pass through waivers again to be sent down. Will Quinn do something before more seats become vacant?: [FINAL C Edition] Pap, Elliott. The Vancouver Sun [Vancouver, B.C] 30 Dec 1993: D7. ... The Canucks' woes were cast aside for a night Wednesday as the team staged its second annual skills competition. Pavel Bure dethroned Gerald Diduck as hardest shot champion with a blast that registered 96.9 m.p.h. The Russian Rocket also had the second best blast at 96.1 mph. Defending champ Diduck was second with a 94.5 effort. Gino Odjick was a prank victim in the velocity contest as his black-hearted mates sabotaged his sticks, which shattered on impact. Trevor Linden emerged the fastest skater, doing a lap and a half around Pacific Coliseum in 14.19 seconds. Bure fell during his timed run and was not a factor. Cliff Ronning was the most accurate shooter, hitting 3-of-4 targets in an 18-second drill.

He was the one laughing the hardest anyway so I assume he had his well travelled nose in there. I remember Linden as being one of the fastest (top speed) skaters in the league in his prime and I don't think I ever saw him get caught from behind. Hockey News had him in the top 5-10 at one point.(I know but I think it was a players' poll) Once he got those raptor legs going, the man could flat out fly. MoneypuckOverlord
Two of the greatest players to ever wear a Canucks sweater were considered slow footed. They turned out all right. So there is hope for Gaunce to overcome his lack of foot speed. If your referring to Trevor Linden and Stan Smyl Trevor LInden is one of the fastest 6'4 mofo's in his prime. You guys think Trevor Linden was good because of his character and leadership? He was incredibly fast for his height. this was game 7 between the St.Louis Blues and the Vancouver Canucks in 1995. Just look at Trevor Linden at peak of his career. Not only was he fast, he was also a Giant. Check it out. Ghostsof1915
People seem to forget that Trevor was a natural Right Winger. He was converted to a centre out of necessity. He scored 30+ goals in 5 of his first 6 seasons. Why did we let Larinonov walk? *sigh*
