Green was just on TSN1040 and noted Gaunce received the most improved player award this year. Maybe we'll see an article on that and what players won the other awards - and I just searched and if course there is:

http://canucksarmy.com/2015/4/17/comets-militia-down-on-the-farm-april-17th-2015/score

Some End of Year Awards that were handed out to players:

  • Jacob Markstrom: 3-Stars & Media Person of the Year
  • Brendan Gaunce: Most Improved Player
  • Bobby Sanguinetti: Best Defencemen
  • Alex Biega: Most Classy Guy (Dave Armstrong Award) & Community Involvement (Thomas Lindsay Award). He was also the Comets nomination for the AHL All-American award.
  • Carter Bancks: Most Heart
  • Cal O'Reilly: Coaches Favourite (/ MVP)
  • Frank Corrado received some accolades.
  • Brandon DeFazio has also become the franchise's 2nd 20-goal scorer!
  • Cal O'Reilly is on a 14 game point streak.
  • In the trade that still doesn't make sense, since the trade deadline Cory Conacher has 14 points in 18 games while Dustin Jeffrey has 21 points in 17 games.

As P/O as I am now with how the Canucks are doing, I'm happy to hear the cavalry will be arriving next season.

With the uncertainty regarding Richardon's injury and the likelihood that Matthias won't be retained after this post-season performance so far, there should leave room for Gaunce to fill in the 4th line centre role.

I think it is a good sign that Gaunce is the most improved. A smart and motivated player who is making good strides.

Gaunce strike me that his intelligence allows him to keep his eye on the prize. He understands the task and time needed but he's going to do what ever it takes. I've enjoyed his couple of interviews

gaunce will probably be our second liner in his prime, that being said, he's already made great strides in improving his game (and transitioning to left wing), so if he keeps this up he may flirt with the first line every now and then too. I could see him lining up on horvat's left side every now and then.

Second line? What are your expectations for him in terms of offensive output?

Good reports about Guance's progress this season. Shink is getting more press right now but they are different players.

Hoping Gaunce makes a serious play for 4C next fall but another year in Utica will be OK as well. His d-side ability is more developed which might allow a 4th line presence. How about Guance at 4LW and Grenier as 4C. Big and bigger!

I see Gaunce as a Backes, Ladd type player by the time Green has finished with him.

That would be nice, I can't imagine it happening though.

I am expecting more Boyd Gordon or Jay McClement. Smart, bottom 6 players who are good defensively and while not nearly skilled enough for a top 6 spot can contribute some offensive on the 3rd and 4th lines.

Gordon was a 1st round pick, McClement a 2nd so it is no insult to Gaunce to compare him to these two players.

Low first round picks (like Gaunce) do always even make the NHL. If Gaunce becomes any kind of NHL regular I think that will be a good result for him. He had a decent year in Utica but he will have to make significant progress next year if he is going to challenge to make the Canucks the year after.

Does he have the same 'fire' as those two? Backes and Ladd have had great battles with Kesler throughout the years. Do you remember Ladd breaking Kesler's nose with his stick? I don't see Gaunce as that type of player. If he stays on the wing, maybe a bigger version of Higgins.

He definitely had a temper in junior at times. He's pretty calm most of the time, but by the time he's 26 I think he could be pretty intimidating on the ice.
