Why would the organization advertise he is being assigned tomorrow ala waivers. Doesnt that just give GM's time to think about it and or make room? That said I'm sure he will clear.

He'll be assigned tomorrow based on clearing waivers today. Same as any player who requires waivers...

Brendan Gaunce has cleared waivers. Likely on his way to Utica

Good news for us. In a way I was hoping he would get claimed and get a chance to fit in somewhere. Its not over for him. Just needs to work on his game and hopefully find his scoring. Good character kid.

Maybe Gaunce has some trade value now he’s cleared?  I wonder if a top team might want Gaunce on their farm team as insurance against injury?

I saw Gaunce pass up a hit in the corner 2 games ago, he skated right past the guy behind the goalie. I also saw Archie nail Muzzin... Muzzin is a huge guy and Archie laid him out flat.

That seem to be the problem with both of these guys. In a different game you might see the opposite, where Archie takes a pass and Gaunce makes the hit. Neither player seems to have it in their blood to make hits. Its almost like they both know they need to make hits that the coach will notice, and so they do, now and again, but not with consistancy.

I kind of get the same feeling from Schaller, though the sample size is small.

Goodbranson also, we'll call them "reluctant tough guys"

At the NHL level Jim has brought in Dorsett and Rousell, guys that WANT to be physical. Jake has stated that is the player he wants to be... we can hope.

But if Archie and Gaunce end up in Utica I wonder where the aggression will come from on the farm?

It is not like the Moose days with Kesler, Burrows, Hansen and Bieksa.

Who brings the agresssive leadership to Utica? Not Archie or Gaunce

This is why I love Biega so much. He always brings it. Great energy guy.

If the Canucks somehow make a playoff run in the next few years, Gaunce would be a great player to have as a fill in for the inevitable injuries.

He is big and strong, willing to hit, and extremely responsible defensively.

He wouldn't help the team offensively but also would keep the team from going into the toilet defensively.

And who knows?  Maybe in a year or two Gaunce suddenly discovers a scoring touch in the AHL?

If he could do that, he would suddenly be a valuable 4th liner.

Doesn't feel like he is part of the future.

Gaunce opened camp on a line with Kero and Boucher.  Kero didn't even get in a pre-season game and Boucher was never expected to make the team.

His 1st game was against Calgary's B-squad on a line with Boucher and Lind.  That's not a line that plays to his strength.  Gaunce was always going to make the team in a checking role.

His 2nd game was in Calgary and there he was on a line that was plausible - Sutter and Motte but he only played 10 minutes.  And then that was it.  Archibald got 4 games.  Motte got 5, and Gaunce, who had been on the team for 2 seasons only got 2 games to keep his spot on the team.

Ya they've definitely given up on Gaunce.  It's too bad as I see him as a good cheap 4th line player.  Sure he doesn't score but he's good at keeping the puck out of his own net and that's what you want out of a 4th line player
