No.  It seems we're letting Edler go and possibly Hamonic as well.  Then we're going to trade Schmidt so we can sign another forward.  Who exactly is going to play defence for this team?

Maybe in the time off the Sedins have morphed their game into defense specialist and will lace them up

I'll believe most of this when I see it to be honest, especially the Schmidt part.

Too many people talking out their butts at this point to believe anything.

Wonder who's gonna replace Edler? We're gonna have to either make some trades or some potentially overpriced free agent signings.

Hughes

Schmidt Rathbone

Juolevi Myers

Just need a partner for Hughes and a couple veteran depth guys to fill in for Rathbone or Juolevi if they’re not quite ready for full time duty.

And if Schmidt gets traded and Myers is taken in the expansion draft?

Well according to Benning there are no plans to trade him. If they do they’ll need a d man back in a trade or they’ll have to use the cap space to sign a replacement.

Myers will 100% be protected.

Juiolevi will replace much if Edler’s minutes.  Although I do also believe Edler will still sign here.  His role will be reduced.

I'm not so sure that it won't happen. I would hope that if it does, Benning gets a solid defenseman in return, or as you said, uses the cap space to go after the likes of Oleksiak, if he's interested in signing here.

For sure? When do the lists come out?

Don’t need to see the lists to know he’ll be protected.

The Canucks don’t have any expansion issues. Worst they’ll lose is Gadjovich unless they acquire another player.

I scrolled really quickly through the page, and when I scanned past your post, it read as though you said "Juolevi will replace Edler's nuts."

Insider info, eh?

I'd like it if they don't lose Gadjovich or MacEwen. I could see those two making two thirds of a vicious fourth line.

Don’t need insider info, it’s just common sense. Who would you protect instead of Myers?

No team is gonna protect Gadjovich over Myers. That would be very poor asset management. You could get a decent return for Myers in a trade, not to mention he’d be hard to replace.

Well, I'm of the mind that you never actually know until you see the list. Myers is a good defenseman for the team, and I'm fine with him being protected as he's shown his worth already.

Never said Gadjovich over Myers. Just would prefer that the team not lose Gadjovich as I think his potential is untapped still. For me, it would be perfect if Seattle chose Bowey, Virtanen, or Holtby.

Frankly, I'm relieved to hear Edler is hitting the open market.  Looks like Benning made his best offer and it wasn't good enough for Edler.  Fine, bring on the future.  A left side of Hughes, Rathbone and Juolevi was always where we were headed.  Now we get to see it in action for a year with a chance to address it next summer (if needed) when we'll have the cap to do so.  Great to see Benning setting a walk-away point like this:  kudos to him.
