iBlueGreen
After watching the memorial cup, and seeing Tkachuk, score the deflection on his first goal, and his drive to score the OT winner, he looks like the type of player we need! A player net front presence and a winger who can score the big goals and make great plays. I hope Edmonton doesn't pick him, and we get a chance to pick him. I hear all the positives of Dubois on this board, but I think what we need more is a player like Tkachuk. For those guys leaning towards Dubois, does Tkachuk's performance in the MC, enough to change your mind about him?

mpt
Even thought he scored two goals, he was pretty non existent that game. Nothing like Boeser in the final 4. I'll be happy not take him at 5, but I'm not crazy excited either
The Weasel
I really want him on the team, but I think the oilers will take him. Tkachuk and McDavid will terrorize us for years.

And my guess is that Benning has Juolevi at #6 (as he has said that he one D in the top 6). I still like Dubois better for various reasons that have been previously posted. But Tkachuk would also be great guy to have in the pipeline. And same for Juolevi. It is possible that Edmonton might take Juolevi at #4 in which case Benning would have an interesting call to make between Dubois and Tkachuk. But I agree that the likeliest thing is that Edmonton takes Tkachuk at #4, then the Canucks take Dubois at #5. As for whether the Memorial Cup made me revise my opinion of Tkachuk v. Dubois, I think my opinion of Tkachuk did rise, but I still have Dubois ahead.

iBlueGreen
14 minutes ago, TU90 said: He's insanely slow, Bonino slow. According to lastwordonsports.com, it has improved a lot from last year, it's above average: "Matthew Tkachuk’s skating was weak at the start of last year (2014-15 with the US NTDP), but improved as the year went on and that improvement continued through this season. He now shows above average speed. He also has great agility, and is able to maneuver through traffic both with and without the puck. Tkachuk’s lower body shows power and balance, and helps him to protect the puck in the cycle and to attack the net. He could stand to add a little more muscle to his frame overall, and as he does this will only continue to improve." He's young and has a high ceiling, and the hand eye coordination on that deflection is impressive. I don't think you need that much speed in front or the net or in the corner. You just need quickness and the ability to protect the puck.

Not saying I don't like him, just saying he's really slow. Do we have enough speed to offset it like Pittsburgh does?

I think Benning is bluffing on the Dman pick at #5, Edmonton is extremely weak on D,. Even in their minor league. My guess is that he is hoping that his "interest" in a Dman, might get the Oilers to consider their situation, hopefully leaving Tkachuk alone and available. Nave
For anyone who's saying he's slow: He played on a sprained ankle. He's not a burner by any means, but does that matter when he has that hand eye? He is a very good team player, and London would not have won 17 straight without him. Yes, he benefits from his teammates, but he also seems to be one of those glue guys who helps other people gel. Hopefully, the Oilers do not take him. However, I think it's likely that someone will trade up for either Tkachuk or Dubois.

messier's_elbow
I'm honestly good with either guy. Both look like A grade prospects. Tkachuk is the flavour of the week and would look good with Horvat and Boeser. The guy is amazing in front of the opposition net and can make great passes on the PP. seems like a big game performer and a leader. Only worry is his skating but seems like the type of guy to work tirelessly to improve. Dubios looks like a future 1st or 2nd line centre if he can develop properly. Love his size and skill. His coach said he looks like the best Q prospect in years. Horvat and Dubois down the middle sounds good for the future.

Tkachuk would fit in quite nicely as a duck imo. Makes a great tongue twister. Pass the puck to duck tkachuk.

We have the possibility of coming up with one of the hardest Ds in the West if/when Tryamkin, Guddy, Hutton, Tanev, Sbisa make the grade. That leaves an opening for a livewire puck moving D. Wouldn't that be ironic if it was Larsen? Then we have the tandem of Marky and Demko in goal. I'm not worried at all.
