Angry Goose
Quote LUKE FOX MAY 30, 2016, 1:40 PM Smart move, Troy Brouwer. More than a month ahead of unrestricted free agency, the St. Louis Blues forward just upped his popularity in his hometown by speaking favourably about joining theVancouver Canucks this summer. “I have thought about it, for sure,” the North Deta native told Vancouver’s News 1130 Sports Monday. “Family and friends, playing for my hometown — it would be an experience for sure.” NEWS 1130 Sports ✔@NEWS1130Sports Brouwer on #Canucks : "I have thought about it, for sure. Family & friends, playing for my hometown, it would be an experience for sure." 9:52 AM - 30 May 2016 The 30-year-old Brouwer raised his stock considerably by playing a key role in the Blues’ run to the Western Conference final. The winger scored eight goals (one fewer than team leader Vladimir Tarasenko), added five assists, and logged nearly 19 minutes per night this post-season. “It’s definitely a team, a city and a franchise I’d like to come back to if the opportunity makes itself available,” Brouwer said of St. Louis after being eliminated by San Jose. Simple finances may prevent a re-signing, however. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound Brouwer will be coveted by the competition and should see a raise from his current $3.67-million salary cap hit. The winger said he would love to return to St. Louis, but there’s only so much dough to go around — and a chunk of that should go to RFA Jaden Schwartz, in need of a raise from his $2.35 million salary. “My dad was a huge Canucks fan. Mark Messier was a big influence in my hockey career. I watched him a lot in Vancouver,” Brouwer said Monday. “[It would] definitely be a great experience to play for the hometown team and see what it’s like, but I don’t know what the Canucks’ plans are.” Vancouver, which whiffed on the 2016 post-season, appears keen to contend for a playoff spot in 2017. Last week GM Jim Benning traded a young, small forward inJared McCann to Florida for defenceman Erik Gudbranson, partly because Benning wants a bigger team to match up against rugged Pacific Division opponents. The veteran Brouwer has 150 goals and 294 points over 613 NHL games played with Chicago, Washington and St. Louis. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- source What do you think? I really like it when the Nucks add BC boys to the team. He would definitely line up well with Sutter, match up well in the Western Conference, be a good team player and probably very active in the community. Good role model for Virtanen as well since they play a similar style of game. At 30 years old next season and the next are most likely going to be productive years, after that it is hard to say. And no Desi, he is not elite skill or a young player, but he gets the job done pretty darn well.

theminister
Like McGinn, he would fit a nice middle six role for us. If the dollars and term are reasonable I'd be very happy with that addition. It would certainly be better than buying the farm with Ericsson IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if he is one of those players that winds up a discount on day 2 or 3 as he realizes that he won't get the high price after cap space has been allocated. He's that middle class of FAs which are getting squeezed more and more every year.
Bob Long
I think he'd be a fantastic RW fit with the Sedin's and probably a lot cheaper than Okposo. The timing works as well age-wise, our prospects would be ready to take over once this line is no longer the #1 in 2-3 years.

Maniwaki Canuck
I like the player but wonder about the fit. He's a great addition to a contender but perhaps a bit wasted in a re-build. For sure he'd be a good mentor, but in the end he probably wants another shot at the cup. Is he first-line material for us? Would he make Sutter better? If yes to either and he'd settle for 4.5-4.75 mil, then yeah. I'd still prefer Okposo, but Brouwer is a more realistic possibility after this. goblix
pretty much 40pts per season, would imagine similar or better stats with the Sedins, good intangible guy as well. Was also one of the better players in the playoffs which is a big plus. I'd only be interested in him if we are trading Hansen and only for good value. Still whats his salary cost ? 4m -- 4.5m at a discount ?

87Crosby
If we trade Hansen he would be the perfect fit to replace him. If we don't I still would want him on the team. Aside from his losses in Game 7, seems like a no brainer to me.
theminister
If we strike out on a player like Okposo, which would be likely I think, then he'd be a good 2nd option. If he has the chance of replacing Hansen on the top line, potentially a selling point in negotiations, then the depth up front starts to look quite a bit better and more physical. Sedins-Brouwer Baertschi-Sutter-Rodin Etem-Horvat-Hansen Dorsett-Granlund-Virtanen If Virts can show well in camp as well then he might move up and push Etem down. Either way, I'd be very happy with a Horvat-Hansen pairing on the 3rd. BCNate
A 2 year deal would allow us to send Virtanen to Utica next year to develop a little more. Huge upgrade on burrows if we can move him.

He would be a great fit with the twins, imo and could create some space for them as well.
Rick Blight
Brouwer is almost everything in a player that Benning values and I think he would be a great fit for this team. He has good size, plays physical. can contribute offensively and has always been a good team guy. What is not to like?

LaBamba
Benning will sign him to a 7x7 co tract and lose Alex Grenier to Toronto on waivers. Toronto won't actually play him though.

If the Canucks make the playoffs, you have to decide whether keeping Hansen is worth it for a playoff run (which he definitely would be). If by the deadline or before that it looks like the Canucks won't make the playoffs, let Hansen go to a playoff team. Having both in the line up though is exactly what the Nucks need tho. Both work extremely hard and win their battles.
Jaku
If he's asking for a reasonable salary, with a decent term then yes. He would be a good add, good size, adds depth to the team, and can give the Canucks that 30-40 point range in scoring.
