-Vintage Canuck-
Quote After leading his team to the Western Conference Final for the first time in his five-year tenure, it appears head coach Ken Hitchcock has done enough to stay with the St. Louis Blues. The Blues are expected to make a formal announcement as early as Tuesday that Hitchcock will remain with the team on what's likely to be another one-year contract, reports Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos and Elliotte Friedman. Though the 64-year-old is expected to keep his spot on the team, there may be changes with the rest of the coaching staff, who Friedman suggests might seek more term. Hitchcock became the head coach of the Blues in November 2011, and has posted a .667 win percentage over five regular seasons. However, that success hasn't translated into the playoffs, where the bench boss has a 20-25 record in St. Louis. He won his lone Stanley Cup as head coach of the Dallas Stars in 1999. http://www.thescore.com/news/1035952

mpt
Wow after the report that Tarasenko wasn't too happy with the coaching, I wonder if that means he'll be on the way out or just tempers getting high
AV's Coin
Surprised he would be extended. Blues need to do something different to get over the hump.
HC20.0
One more "Prove it" deal. I think if he hadn't reached the CF, he'd be long gone by now.
Apple Juice
If the Blues didn't beat the Blackhawks in Round One, it was pretty much a guarantee that he would be fired.

He also may be looking at retirement soon. I think he's the oldest coach in the NHL currently at 64.
timberz21
I'm surprised, even though they finally had success in the playoff. But potentially losing their captain and other core players like Brouwer, I figured the Blues were might go into a small rebuild/retool, starting with the Head Coach. I guess, it all comes down to, "what have you done fore me lately" and can you really fire someone who led you to the conference finals?

At every level they've had disagreements with players and coaches, doesn't mean squat.

From Sportsnet on May 12: "I scare myself because I think if I take long-term deal, I'm gonna get sloppy," Hitchcock told Hockey Central at Noon Thursday, hours after guiding his Blues to the Western Conference final. "I want to stay on one-year deals."
mll
Re Tarasenko and the Blues - Friedman had some interesting comments a week ago Transcript from the website Today's slapshot: http://www.todaysslapshot.com/from-the-ice/friedman-wonders-about-tarasenkos-future-blues/ Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Tuesday morning. As part of a larger discussion on the St. Louis Blues: “The Tarasenko thing is amazing to me. Here’s a guy who they signed to a huge extension. He’s an $8 million dollar a year player. And very quietly all year, there have been rumblings that they haven’t been satisfied with him. And this playoffs has been proof of that. His ice time was a huge conversation in the Chicago series. It was like Stamkos last year for Tampa. There were nights he was their sixth or seventh most-used forward. “Last night, for me, that was the kind of game (where) it was up and down, it was entertaining hockey. That’s the kind of game Tarasenko should flourish in, and you didn’t notice him. It took 56 minutes for him to get a shot on goal. He doesn’t have a single point in this series. “I wonder, when this year is over and St. Louis has to make some choices; I mean, I have no knowledge that this is – this is purely me thinking out loud here – but I’ve got to wonder if there’s going to be any conversation about is he part of their future. I mean, I can’t imagine he wouldn’t. But they’ve gone to the third round now and he has not been a major factor for a lot of it. He was against Chicago. Every time he touched the puck in that series you wondered if he could score. “But the subplot here is… and like I said, there have been rumors they haven’t been happy with him, and now I look at this and I’m like, ‘Wow.’ “I don’t know what the story is here, but clearly he has not been himself.” Source: Sportsnet 960/ Transcript: Nichols
