ShakyWalton
Vegan restaurant in Tblisi is attacked by meat wielding extremists... Customers said a group entered the cafe wearing sausages around their necks and carrying slabs of meat on skewers, before attacking customers and staff. .... http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36416501?ocid=socialflow_facebook&ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbcnews&ns_source=facebook vegan cafe in Tbilisi has appealed for public solidarity after being invaded by alleged ultra-nationalists wielding grilled meat and sausages. More than a dozen men stormed into the Kiwi cafe in the Georgian capital on Sunday evening, the cafe said, shouting and throwing meat at patrons. A brawl erupted but the attackers fled before police arrived. The cafe has appealed for public support, saying it was no prank but a case of intimidation by neo-Nazis. It said it was already the target of some local hostility due to its patrons' alternative lifestyles - "the way we look, music that we listen to, ideas we support, and the fact that we don't eat meat" and backing of causes such as rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. "During these hard times you can support us just by visiting our cafe, we will be very grateful if you come to show everyone that here are a lot of us who care about the issue!" the Kiwi cafe said in a statement on Facebook. It later told the BBC it had received strong messages of solidarity - from Georgia and abroad - but that people had also left angry comments trying "to defend those fascists". It said it was also appealing for financial contributions to install security cameras in case of repeat incidents.

theminister
I would just like to take this moment to point out that in the parable of Cain and Abel that Cain (farmer) was the bad guy and Abel (shepherd) was the good guy. First and most importantly, I 100% agree the destruction of environment is a great reason to promote responsible food production, reasonable portions and supporting sustainable and humane food producers. To use "suffering" as a moral high-ground and a reason not eat meat, to me, is blowing hot air. Humans are part of the food chain. Throughout the food chain there is much suffering, whether it's the senseless murder of millions of Krill at the mouths of a Blue Whale or an Antelope suffocating in the jaws of a Lion...or a Caribou being nipped at by a pack of Wolves until it falls and is eaten while still dying. I am not a pro-meat activist, I live with a vegan and I am way closer to a vegan lifestyle than a true carnivore, in fact I loathe corporate food production in general, and view it one of the biggest problems facing our species. The beef industry is responsible for the vast majority of deforestation. That's a fact. What's not a fact is that Humans are genetically not supposed to eat meat. That's a blatant lie. Humans have evolved geographically and in some areas, there are little vegetables and meat is the predominant staple. In other areas and cultures, vegetables are the staple. There will continue to be be suffering, it should not be celebrated or understated. People just need to learn to accept we are not a homogeneous species and learn to accept opposing points of view. Then we can all work together against the Evil Empire who will destroy our planet in the name of greed.

You think you're saving the world by eating a tofu-burger and sticking to a diet of grains and berries? Well here's something that not many vegetarians know (or care to acknowledge): every year millions of animals are killed by wheat and soy bean combines during harvesting season (source). Oh yeah, go on and on for hours about how all of us meat eaters are going to hell for having a steak, but conveniently ignore the fact that each year millions of mice, rabbits, snakes, skunks, possums, squirrels, gophers and rats are ruthlessly murdered as a direct result of YOUR dieting habits. What's that? I'm sorry, I don't hear any more elitist banter from you pompous cocks. Could it be because your $&!# has been RUINED? http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=grill
