pushfrog7
Hi All, With the Canucks a little short on draft picks this year (at the moment), I wanted to take a look at which teams would have duplicate draft picks in the upcoming draft for the first three rounds. Then, I wanted to see what (if any) trades we could offer these teams for these picks. First Round - Toronto Maple Leafs (1st Overall) - Winnipeg Jets (2nd Overall) - Arizona Coyotes (7th Overall) - Carolina Hurricanes (13th Overall) - Boston Bruins (14th Overall) - Boston Bruins (20th Overall) - Arizona Coyotes (22nd Overall) - Carolina Hurricanes (23rd Overall) - Winnipeg Jets (26th Overall) - Toronto Maple Leafs (27th Overall) Second Round - Toronto Maple Leafs (31st Overall) - Calgary Flames (35th Overall) - Montreal Canadiens (39th Overall) - Tampa Bay Lightning (44th Overall) - Montreal Canadiens (45th Overall) - Tampa Bay Lightning (49th Overall) - Calgary Flames (54th Overall) - Pittsburgh Penguins (55th Overall) - Pittsburgh Penguins (57th Overall) - Calgary Flames (59th Overall) - Toronto Maple Leafs (60th Overall) Third Round - Toronto Maple Leafs (61st Overall) - Edmonton Oilers (62nd Overall) - Carolina Hurricanes (66th Overall) - Buffalo Sabres (68th Overall) - Toronto Maple Leafs (71st Overall) - New Jersey Devils (72nd Overall) - Carolina Hurricanes (73rd Overall) - Caroline Hurricanes (74th Overall) - Edmonton Oilers (75th Overall) - New Jersey Devils (76th Overall) - Buffalo Sabres (85th Overall) - Buffalo Sabres (88th Overall) - Buffalo Sabres (89th Overall) Fourth Round - Toronto Maple Leafs (91st Overall) - Anaheim Ducks (92nd Overall) - Florida Panthers (93rd Overall - We traded this one to them) - Chicago Blackhawks (94th Overall) - Toronto Maple Leafs (100th Overall) - New Jersey Devils (101st Overall) - New Jersey Devils (104th Overall) - San Jose Sharks (110th Overall) - San Jose Sharks (112th Overall) - Florida Panthers (114th Overall) - Anaheim Ducks (115th Overall) - Chicago Blackhawks (116th Overall) Of course, there are a lot of teams with duplicates in the later rounds, but I figure these would be the ones we would target. Thoughts? Burrows and Higgins to Toronto for the 31st overall!!!! Let's just forget about the whole Salary Cap issue with my suggestion, shall we?? bryndogcanuck
This list is inaccurate / out of date. A better source is the NHL website itself. The following article from NHL news is the most up to date for the first round. https://www.nhl.com/news/2016-nhl-draft-order-almost-set/c-280817702 2016 NHL Draft order almost set Lightning will have 27th pick; Blues get 28th choice by Adam Kimelman @NHLAdamK / NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor May 27th, 2016 The first 28 picks of the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft have been set with the conclusion of the conference final series. The NHL Draft Lottery, which was held April 30, established the order for the first 14 selections. The next 12 spots were set by the results of the first two rounds of the playoffs. Non-division-winning teams were placed in inverse order of their regular-season point totals, then division winners were slotted in the same fashion. The Tampa Bay Lightning, who lost 2-1 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final on Thursday, will pick 27th. The St. Louis Blues, who were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 5-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final on Wednesday, will pick 28th. The draft will be held June 24 and 25 at First Niagara Center in Buffalo. Five teams have multiple picks in the first round. The Winnipeg Jets, who won the second pick in the lottery, also have the Chicago Blackhawks' pick at No. 22, acquired in the Feb. 25 trade for forward Andrew Ladd. The Arizona Coyotes have the seventh pick and the New York Rangers' selection at No. 20, acquired in the March 1, 2015, trade for defenseman Keith Yandle. The Carolina Hurricanes have their pick at No. 13 and the Los Angeles Kings' selection at No. 21, which they got in the Feb. 25, 2015, trade for defenseman Andrej Sekera. The Toronto Maple Leafs, who won the lottery and will pick No. 1, also have the Penguins' pick from the Phil Kessel trade on July 1. The Boston Bruins have the No. 14 pick and the Sharks' first-round selection, acquired in the June 30 trade for goaltender Martin Jones. The order of the final two picks will be determined by the result of the Stanley Cup Final between the Penguins and Sharks. 1. Toronto Maple Leafs 2. Winnipeg Jets 3. Columbus Blue Jackets 4. Harvey Spector
If Dubois goes at 4 it's not inconceivable that some teams come calling for the right to draft Tkachuk. If Arizona wants to switch places and add a pick, say second round, Benning might go for it if he thinks he can get a player he wants at 7. However if Benning has a certain D he wants and Dubois is gone and he doesn't want Tkachuk then I can see him just picking that D at 5. I don't think he will risk losing the player he wants to gain an extra pick, even a second rounder. You have to be careful trading top 5 picks even to go down two or three spots. It could cost you the player you want and perhaps a franchise changing player.

coastal.view
canucks are not short on draft picks they have the 5th overall traded their 2nd round for the 3rd overall pick from a recent previous draft to fill a specific r hand dman position they are fine i would have wanted them to use a draft pick to shore up that need but it is taken care of canucks are fine at this draft in my view

Benning called Tkatchuk the best player in the draft from the face off circles in. He personally scouted him 20 plus times this season. If he is on the board at #5 ...... It would be tempting but I wouldn't do it. I think Tkachuk is a sure thing to be a top 6 and a good chance to be the next Corey Perry . A much better bet than anyone outside of 5. That 20th overall could end up being nothing. We need top end talent not quantity.

Oilers are probably going to draft a defenceman... but possibly trade down a bit. They'll probably look at trading down to Arizona so that ARI can take Tkachuk at #4 and they can choose their choice dman still at #7 I hope Edm just drafts a defenceman at #4 though and we can look into trading down to #7 + 2nd rounder for our 5th and pick Dubois, Jost, Brown but the downside is that it gives Cgy the pick of the litter before us lol
Sundstrom17
We better not trade down. We need the 5th overall pick and take the best player available Dubois or Tkatchuk. And if Tkatchuk is great in the faceoff circle... even better reason to draft him... we suck there. Teams with high round draft picks are more likely to trade their lower end picks for roster players. specifically if they are looking for a good roster player. For example I could see a potential trade for Hansen to WPG targeting that 22nd pick. (framework not actual trade value) Also trading down is an option. I doubt ARI would trade the #20 to move 2 spots up and CAR #13 + #21 is probably too low of value for us to trade down to them as we need the higher echelon of skill in our pool. Much excited for the options, only thing I care about right now is for Benning to find a way to fill out the draft with a few moves. Add a couple picks somewhere in the first 3 rounds. Honestly meant more of an example, I didn't really look at their roster Still WPG had a lot of young players playing at the end of the year so I doubt all of the RW are locks in their position and also Hansen being an excellent PKer may be a huge selling point for WPG. I like Hansen, that said if we can get Brouwer at the UFA for a decent price then I would be more lenient to a Hansen trade. Sadly the timing is off so it's a pretty big leap of faith.
