UCLA, posting updates on its website, said that LAPD had confirmed there were two victims.

The university's campus newspaper, the Daily Bruin, also said on Twitter that a campus spokesman confirmed there were two dead, and that the shooters were believed to be a man and a woman.

The Daily Bruin said campus police responded after students reported hearing a loud noise and gun casings drop at the Engineering IV building.

The Daily Bruin described one shooter as a white male, six feet tall, wearing a black jacket and black pants.

Oh thank god.

Not a terrorist, just a confused mentally ill person.

God, that's terrible.  My heart goes out to the families of those shot.  It's another call the kids day, and remind them they are loved.

Murder-suicide. So nobody knew this for about two hours. Could you imagine if all the students were allowed to carry, running around looking for the actual shooter, armed to the teeth like most Republican law makers want. The local police and swat teams that arrived would've had an infinitely more complex problem on their hands with more people likely being killed.

Tortorella's Rant, what is your position when it comes to guns?

They can't "get rid of them" down there. It's their culture and it's very unlikely to change much let alone disappear in our life time. So at the very least we have to accommodate them the best we can. Schools are always a hot topic here. I don't see why it's impractical to retrain vets to guard and patrol schools and universities. Train them to work in this type of environment, train to deescalate situations, and most importantly make sure they're mentally competent to hold such a position. This way they effectively deal with shooter situations probably the best way possible and they provide a huge number of jobs to men and women left in the gutter by their government.

No, no, you've got it all wrong. When a Good Guy With a Gun encounters a Bad Guy With a Gun, they just cancel each other out. It's basic math, really.

9mm Static Target, 16-20 feet, paper target sure. In a stress situation, even given a concealed carry permit, and trained like a fiend you are relying on luck, cover, and a bunch of variables. No training or how good you are if someone gets a drop on you, you're number is up.

Our laws won't stop all incidents that happen. But whats obvious between the proportion of the population compared to the US things are better here. Our laws may not always make sense, and Bill S-223 was stupid. But on the whole it works.

RIP for the victims. Hopefully psychologists can identify symptoms earlier to save lives.

If the bad guys/girls with guns knew tha a lot of the regular people were carrying, don't you believe that would make them think twice about shooting?  I think it would, because several of the good people would draw and shoot the bad people.  It would be suicide.  They would not get away.  Sure they would take out some targets, but they would be dead.  That's a very strong deterrent.  Trump suggested faculty should carry.  Maybe we all should be trained as citizens to carry?

I'd agree with you as long as it wasn't mandated.  I think it's a personal choice in assuming the responsibility of your own protection.  Likewise, if someone were to carry it is also their responsibility to seek training and KEEP training as it's a perishable skill/behavior and needs to be practiced consistently.

Yeah, I'd have to agree that knowing more people were armed could be a deterrent.

No.

Guns turn some good guys/girls into bad guys/girls.
