pluralsight
To a 5 year contract extension. http://www.tsn.ca/isles-sign-cizikas-to-5-year-16-75m-extension-1.500307 16.75 Million in total. 3.35 Million per year.
Master Mind
A lot to be paying a 4th liner, but the Isles 4th line is also a big part of their success. Spoiler Glad I signed him for less in CDC Puck!
DeNiro
Wow, pricey. Wonder if we should get Baertschi locked up long term now if this is the way contracts are going.
Down by the River
Well, you know Okposo is definitely a goner now.
DeNiro
For comparison, Etem had 7 goals in 39 games (on pace for 25 points) and Cizakas had 8 in 80 (30 points). Maybe we should be locking up Etem now too.
VegasCanuck
Maybe a little steep, but he has been a consistent part of their team since 2013 season. Baerstchi and Etem have been trying to really establish for a couple of seasons. I think they will probably look for bridge contracts to prove that they can really stick. True, but a career high of 30 points after averaging 20 points in his previous 3 seasons isn't exactly proving himself as a 3 million dollar player. Dorsett averaging 20 points a season for 2.65 million seems to be fair value if this is the way things are going.

Watch this summer what players comparable to Dorsett get and you'll realize this is just the cost of players now. It changes every year after a lockout. oldnews
I agree with the emerging trend of rewarding depth players more proportionately to their cumulative/integrative contributions. The gap between one dimensional scorers and their team-mates needed/needs to be narrowed imo. Good player. Very important to the NYI. I have no criticism of players like this earning better contracts.
Dion Phaneuf
So his comparable was Marcus Kruger? Both play a similar game as key 4th liners for their teams. Don't like either contract, 4th liners are replaceable regardless of how well they perform in their role. If the Isles win a cup in the next 5 yrs with Cizikas not being a liability, his payday debate can be ignored.

Even the best GMs sign questionable contracts now and then.

For guys with 40% ozone starts. Generating positive territory. Fourth liners for linemates. 12 minutes a night. 58 takeaways. +35 150+ hits. Outscoring the opposition 5 on 5. That sh!t don't cost 750k anymore - and it shouldn't imo. That's the kind of player you win with. The Honey Badgers gotta get paid.
