Shattenkirk. Now.

Recommended Posts

Recently I posted a UFA signing suggestion of Yandle and E.Staal (who's stock is rock bottom right now and could go for a bargain of 4mill - same as we signed Sutter...and other not to be named overpaid players on our team).  Admittedly that post could have been better thought out.  I still like E. Staal at what THN predicts he will be signing at (4-5mill) but he isn't a cornerstone which this team really needs. Looking around Shattenkirk could be just that, he's a steady performer who had a bit of a down year, which helps those who may pursue him.  Brouwer is a good piece too, IF your team is likely to make it far into the playoffs and you need extra clutch performances.  To me he would have been a great piece in the 2009-2013 range of our team, now he will show up every game but eat up cap space that I think would be better suited to paying a more skilled player.

Shattenkirk (or Yandle) would slide right into a bona-fide  #1 role (which we haven't had since Jovo-Cop) given their age and the fact skilled defenseman play well into their mid-thirties, we would instantly turn the page in the back end (thank you Benning for getting a solid #3-4 recently).

Again his stock is a little low right now and he should have lots of game left.   Plus somebody on the CDC has been hoping for this for at least a year now and he would be very happy, and stop asking about it.

Haven't made many topic posts for a while (second one this year), but think this is an important part that the team needs - an offense D man whom can take the pressure off Edler and push special teams.

Would love to have either one. Shattenkirk would cost us Tanev/Hutton + Horvat. Totally not worth it. Yandle won't sign here.

:(

Not really a whole lot of options, plus we aren't ready to compete next year. Perhaps go after Murphy from Carolina as a younger guy with some upside? Hopefully Larsen pans out.

Why is his stock low? He has 1 year till UFA but still he is a valuable RHD in his prime.

the fact that he's UFA likely make him tough to trade for.

ill pass while our defence isn't amazing it is probably fine for next year considering we get to see how Pedan, Tryamkin and Hutton develop over next season

As much as i'd like to see Shattenkirk in a Canucks jersey like everyone else here I don't see Vancouver moving the assets needed to acquire him.

JB already mentioned the team would need to pay high to find a top four, they did so in Gudbranson. I don't see the team having the assets to move out to add another top four dman without hurting other organizational positions.

Maybe the Oilers could move one of their Fab Four for Shatenkirk?^_^

He is a free agent next year. I wouldn't risk losing the assets to trade for him and watch him walk in a year. I'd rather spend on a free agent this year, sign Hamhuis for cheap and next offseason when Burns, Shattenkirk and Hedman could potentially turn UFA let the bidding wars begin. Canucks should clear up a lot of cap space next year to be big players in the UFA market.

I don't see how this would work for the Canucks at all. We don't have assets to trade for him, his stock is not low, and quite frankly even if we had assets that could bring him in - he doesn't fit the long-term plan of this team and wouldn't be worth the price we'd have to pay.

Our D-core is set barring any high-end free agent signings, but I don't see Benning trading for any more D.

if we really want to rebuild and retool

To STL

Tanev

2017 1st

To VAN

Shattenkirk

2016 1st

dump sbisa, resign hammer

D corps

Edler Shattenkirk

Hutton Gubranson

Hammer Tryamkin

that could actually be one of the top 1-6 d corps in the conference with chi, stl, nash, maybe SJS still being better.
