Beary Sweet
Tough loss by the Comets tonight vs the Crunch 4-3 in a shootout. Great fight shown by the team trailing 2-0 through 1. Bancks, Subban and McEneny score for the Comets. Demko made 26 saves and didn't show any signs of rust. Jake had a quiet night, notching a shot. Hope the Comets bounce back next game. Go Comets! Those fans deserve to keep them around, now if only the Aud had a little more capacity.
alfstonker
Thank goodness, I'm tired of the constant mutterings of bringing the team out of Utica. We don't know how lucky we are it seems to me. We have gone from a nightmare in Chicago that we are still suffering the consequences of to a hotbed of hockey where our players are idolised and supported to the hilt - unconditionally. Do we really want our prospects, their coaches and management to be subjected to the vile machinations of the Vancouver press and media? We owe them a team that really reflects the direction we are attempting to take, by that I mean a team filled mostly with Vancouver prospects playing a fast skilled and heavy compete game. I see some of these boys already waiting in the wings. Hopefully they will light Utica up, after all it's been a long time coming. Next season will be the break out year for hopefully the Canucks and the Comets both playing Canucks hockey.

Failing that then they have to move it to California for the same reasons. The AHL Pacific division limits travel for teams in Cali and a team in the Lower Mainland does not do that. SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Good to hear some positive messages from the AHL president regarding Utica. However, I can't help being a bit suspicious about the "no chatter" comment since there's absolutely been some chatter about relocation over the past while. Have to wonder how much this is a PR statement? But hopefully we can take these public statements at face value and expect the team to stay put for at least the next few years (and hopefully longer). I have no idea how the gate receipts are shared between the arena and the Canucks org. My point being is there a more profitable site that the Comets could relocate to? There was talk of a new arena in Utica. Is this a negotiating period?

There has been plenty of "Chatter" most of which has been media and blogger generated. The most specific came from a blogger in Hartford that follows the AHL who had the Canucks pulling out of Utica as early as next season. What AHL President Dave Andrews said was just that....the rumors have been media generated and there have been no discussions with Vancouver regarding a different location for their AHL team. Since these kind of relocations are usually announced during the AHL meetings at the All Star Game (NJ Devils made it official today that they are moving their AHL team from Albany to Binghamton next season) it looks like the Nucks will remain in Utica next season which will be year five of their six year contract. Hopefully they will sign an extension but I'm a realist and believe they will move out west at some point probably sooner rather than later. http://www.howlings.net/2017/01/06/cantlons-corner-exclusive-ahl-changes-for-2017-2018-about-to-unfold/ 2 hours ago, Boudrias said: I have no idea how the gate receipts are shared between the arena and the Canucks org. The Comets ownership group lead by Rob Esche pays Vancouver an affiliate fee each year to place their AHL team in Utica. I have no idea what the details are such as if it is a set fee, a percentage of revenue generated in Utica or a combination of the two. I do know that Vancouver is responsible for all players, coaches and training staff salaries and the Comets are responsible for all office staff, arena lease and rent plus team travel expenses. If there is a move to re-position the Comets, your fans have to fight it. I think it would be a bad move for the Canucks to come back to the West. I think there is a lot of support here in Vancouver for Utica keeping the Comets and the idea that the Van media would have everyday access to our affiliate based here sends shivers up my spine - what a crapfest that would be. Hell we can't even generate decent atmosphere here for the big team. It's alright saying this venue or that would have a capacity of 8-10,000 but if they can't fill it, then it becomes like a morgue. Dave Andrews doesn't sound like the league would welcome the move of an AHL team to BC because it is not a good geographic fit with the Cali based AHL teams. I still think the Canucks eventually move their AHL team out west but it will be somewhere in California rather than the greater Vancouver area. On Utica/Vancouver affiliation: There has been no chatter, no conversation about Vancouver re-locating out of Utica. And I think if they ever did, it would probably be to British Columbia somewhere which is not a very good fit with our teams in California geographically so it's not an automatic fit. There has been no talk at all other than on the other side of it, the Vancouver hockey personnel saying they love it there and are happy there. I don't think there's any concern in Utica. - David Andrews, President/CEO of the AHL http://highlandparkhockey.blogspot.com/2017/01/2017-ahl-state-of-league-address.html?m=
