2016-17 Utica Comets Thread

Recommended Posts

Comets turned it on late vs the Wolfpack but fall just short. Rendulic, Archibald, Subban with the goals for Utica while Jensen, Fontaine with a pair and Kampfer scored for the Wolf Pack. I barely noticed Jake on the ice though but he always forechecked hard out there and always looked for the puck while registering a pair of shots. also he seems to be taking baby steps and learning how to play the game the right way. Bachman made 23 saves and kept the Comets in it. They don't have a game till Tuesday vs the Marlies so hope that they rest up and get ready for the clash. Go Comets!

Utica knotted up with Hartford 1-1 late in the 1st. Rendulic with the goal, helper coming from Pedan

Him scoring is something we haven't heard anywhere near enough this season.

Tonight's double-header, game one Comets on the radio.  Tough way to come off the break, four losses in a row after a six-game win streak that followed a nine-game losing streak.  Sounds like they played hard, but fell short again.  Controversial call with a possible Grenier goal being waived in the second stanza.  The second game of the night is St Cloud vs.North Dakota.  CBS Sports Network carries top College Hockey games and loves North Dakota.  After 2, North Dakota down 2-0.  Boeser with 3 shots.  He was being paired tonight with the top player, Gersich, because ND is going through a scoring slump of late and coach is trying to shake it up.   Boeser has good wheels and gets PP and PK time.  Really solid on the PK.

I wonder if sending Gaunce to the minors is foresight on making him eligible for the AHL playoffs. If he stays there past the trade deadline he'll be available for the Comets to use in the postseason if they make it there, and getting him there now should help their chances of getting there. The Comets are in a tight race vs the Marlies for the final playoff spot in their division right now and have a crucial home-and-home with Toronto this week. At the bare minimum, they need a split of these two games.

Green could either use Gaunce on the wing to load up his top two lines or play him at centre in an attempt to create three lines that can threaten. I like the latter option. Maybe we could see something like:

Archibald-Valk-Grenier

Zalewski-Gaunce-Virtanen

Kunyk-Pelletier-Rendulic

Bancks-Hamilton-Cassels/Carcone

Didn't catch this one as it was a weekday game, but this is a tough loss for the Comets to take, and it makes Friday's game that much more important. The Comets are now three points back of the Marlies with a game in hand; they're also four back of St John's and have two games in hand on them.

Evan McEneny has nine points in his last nine games now after just two in his first 26.

Both TSN and SN are shooting themselves in the foot with this mainstream Toronto sports coverage.

Im about to pull the plug on cable..

Comets tie it up but not for long, Marlies score their 4th pp goal goal of the game.  5-4 Marlies...They are loaded with skill

To top it all off, Bancks and Hamilton  scored early for the Comets. Still plenty of time though to tie errr up again. Go Comets!
